The Empire Strikes Back, directed by Irvin Kershner, is either the second or fifth installment in the series, dependent upon how one is counting.
It was a wonderful film in 1980, and remains so today. Stand the test of time?
You'betcha!
Mr. Kershner, who had been at the film racket for...
Return of the Jedi is either the third or sixth film in the Star Wars series, dependent upon how one perceives it.
Regardless, you all know the storyline.
The new 4k UHD / HDR release from Disney is just fine.
Has grain been managed?
Of course, but it looks fine. Possibly because of it, one...

As everyone knows, Star Wars: A New Hope, may be the first to hit motion pictures screen (in the summer of 1977), but stands as the fourth in the series of nine. It's a bit akin to a Broadway shell game. Which walnut is the pea under?
"Let's sit down and watch part four!"
No need to discuss...
James Gray's Ad Astra on 4k via Fox is an interesting space drama/thriller, which originates from both film and data.
The resultant 4k Blu-ray is a quality up-rez, with HDR that generally works even in projection.
A beautifully rendered Dolby Atmos track holds everything together.
Best not to...

Starting to put all my codes into MOVIES ANYWHERE.
Everything was working great until I came to DIE HARD 4k.
Put in the code and I am only getting redeemed for a HD copy, not 4k.
Is this normal?
I really had no idea what I was getting into with this new Fox release.
Once it got going it seemed to be heading toward Most Dangerous Game territory, but with a decidedly dark humor bent. War between the classes? Not so much. More, at least my take, a plot point.
In that regard, I'd still...
My initial thought regarding Shout Factory's new Anne Bancroft Collection was "why?"
Over the decades Ms Bancroft appeared in over fifty films.
This is a pleasant, but incomplete survey of her career, and there's very little new.
Here's the breakdown.
Eight films.
Don't Bother to Knock -...
It's a strange time to release The Daniel Craig Collection, as it was soon be an incomplete collection. But regardless, the four films included, Casino Royale - 2k DI, Quantum of Solace - 2k DI, Skyfall - 4k DI, and Spectre - 4k DI, all surpass their Blu-ray counterparts visually.
Sonically...
Together agin, for the first time!
Preminger, and Tierney.
And they'd rejoin the future.
But for this 1949 enterprise, things never jelled for me. It's a long way from Laura.
Regardless, the talents brought together here are worth a look, as added to the mix are Jose Ferrer, Charles...
Raoul Walsh, for those who may be unaware, was one of the great American filmmakers, going back to 1912. For those who may care, yes, he worked on The Klansman.
His 1955 Fox production, The Tall Men, is one of the quintessential Clark Gable films.
Victor Young is responsible for the score...

I watched this because Chris Fedak created it, and I loved "Chuck" back in the day. The pilot is currently available for free on Vudu.
It's sort of like Silence of the Lambs, if Hannibal Lecter had been Clarice's estranged father.
There are basically two series here: a mildly quirky police...

Booksmart is a sweet little indie by a freshman director named Olivia Wilde.
In some ways, it seems to be the antithesis of some of John Hughes work, most notably, The Breakfast Club.
It involves two high school senior girls about to graduate and make their way in the world, who discover, at...

Henry Levin's 1953 production of The President's Lady, based upon the historical novel by Irving Stone, has a special place in cinema history.
When I saw it for the first time, probably back in the early '60s, on television, it was in black & white (which as far as I knew at the time, might...

Studio-bound from the word "go," Philip Dunne's Ten North Frederick, based upon the novel by John O'Hara, seems at times as though it will take off.
I've always been a huge fan of Gary Cooper, but the tale of a successful man seeking love, and finding it with Suzy Parker, seems better in my...
