My 2 years old iMac is doing great, but I was thinking about upgrading the RAM to 4GB.
It's a 20" Intel Core 2 Duo 2.4GHz with 2Gb of 667MHz RAM (2x1Gb). It doesn't feel slow, but would I get any noticeable
improvements by increasing to 4Gb?
Would upgrading the RAM invalidate my Apple Care...
Not that I've finally got a MacBook , what's the best way to sync files between the two? I subscribe to MobileMe which can keep iCal and Address Book etc in sync, but what about files in the home folder? iDisk is a bit slow for larger files. Something like DropBox?
Ever since buying my iMac last year, a little voice has been nagging in the back of my mind wanting me to change my windows laptop to a MacBook. This has gotten stronger now that I'm on the road more and will continue to be for the next year. I've been looking at the new Macbooks trying to...
I'm currently using a Seagate 320Gb USB2 drive for TimeMachine only, but I'd also like to be able to create SuperDuper bootable images and an Aperture Vault for my photos. I've got a few questions though. Am I right in thinking that you can only boot off an external firewire drive, not a...
I've been trialling the MobileMe service for the past few days now. Has anyone else noticed that the website interface is quite slow? The mail panel seems OK, but the contacts and calendar are quite slow to load, and the calendar itself seems quite "clunky", especially scrolling between weeks...
The built in zip extractor is great, and i've been using Stuffit's expander for the odd archive, but all these seem to automatically extract the archive rather than having the option to just look inside it. On the pc I used winRAR with archives and I could browse the archives without having...
Hi. I'd appreciate some advice about the best way to setup iTunes for multiple users on my new iMac. Basically I have two user accounts (one for me and one for my wife). We both have our own iPod Nanos and want to keep separate playlists, ratings etc BUT we want to keep the actual music files...
After two weeks of waiting, my new iMac 20" 2.4Ghz has finally arrived It is absolutely gorgeous! The screen is crystal clear, and although highly reflective when off, it causes no problems whatsoever when on (phew!). I wouldn't recommend sitting with your back to a window, but I'm at...
Are any Mac owners here using Aperture? If so, what do you think about it?
As I'm getting ready to switch to Mac, I'm starting to look at what software I might need. I'm not a pro photographer, but I am a reasonably serious amateur.
On my old Windows setup I used a combination of Breeze...
Hi everyone. I'm seriously thinking about switching to a Mac for my main machine. My current setup is Windows XP, and whilst it's a good machine, it's now over three years old and I've already had one memory module go bad in it. I've used Vista for a little while on a work machine, and I hate...
Which of the plethora of MP3 players/library organisers is the best to use on WinXP? I rip CDs using EAC and code with LAME so that side of things isn't important. I'm looking for something to organise playlists and burn selected playlists out to CD to play in the car. Thanks.
Does anyone know of a prog that can batch rename MP3 files based on their tag info? I'm using WinAmp 5 as my MP3 player and I can edit the tags easily using that. Is it best to store both v1 and v2 tags, or can I just store v2 tags? Thanks.
We've finally watched all nine seasons of The X-Files - fantastic show which has given us hours of entertainment. We now need recommendations for similar TV shows in the thriller/crime/sci-fi genre as well as some more light-hearted stuff. It's great to be able to chill for an hour after...
Hi. I'd appreciate some advice with regards to which brand and size of compact flash cards to buy. I've just bought a Canon EOS 300D and need some cards to go with it. I've got a two week holdiay coming up in a few months and will be wanting to take lots of shots. Thanks.
I'm moving house soon and need some advice about my new broadband setup. Current Setup:- NTL Cable Broadband. NTL Cable modem connected via ethernet cable to Linksys BEFW11S4 Wireless access point router with 4-port switch. Two PCs with standard 10/100 NIC Laptop with Linksys Wireless...
I'm looking for two new EIDE data drives for my desktop. The largest capacity which the motherboard BIOS will support is 160Gb at UDMA 100. What would people recommend? They're going to be used for data storage - MP3, video, office files, game installation etc. The OS is on a separate SCSI...
Both my desktop and laptop have firewire ports on them. Can I network using firewire? WinXP on my desktop has a "1394 connection". Would I need a hub, or can I just use a 6-4 cable without anything else? Thanks. Darren.
My dad wants to buy a DVD burner to record home video onto. He has a Sony miniDV camcorder and has transferred the footage to his PC using Adobe Premier via a firewire card. He now wants to put that footage onto DVD so he can watch it on his DVD Player (Sony). He's created some videoCDs but...
I've got to give a presentation on the usage of "cling film" as a burns dressing. Is it known as anything else in the USA/Canada, eg food wrap or something? It's the plastic film that you can use to cover food if you're putting it in the fridge etc. Thanks.
I've been slowling developing my book discussion website for the past 18 months, starting off on ezboard and moving up to where it is today. Tonight I uploaded the new design with lots of new content - news, reviews, links etc... I'd love to get some feedback from the "average web user". I...
Does this have the same style of cover as the other special editions released last year? I have the full set, which gives the gun logo on the side. Does this latest Bond DVD match? Thanks. Darren.
I'm developing a MS Access database application for work, but I'm wondering about whether it's best done this way. Access is very powerful (when you get to know it), but I want to be able to distribute an application package and update it. Access seems a bit tricky to update the application once...
Just received this the other day. It's the first Robbie Williams CD I've bought and I really like it (apart for the stupid, pointless copy protection system). I've been liking more and more of his stuff recently and haven't been disappointed with this album. My favourite track so far is "Love...
Having searched around this forum, CD Collector seems to be a popular choice for cataloging CDs. I've got the trial version which seems very good. I'm on the verge of buying the full version, not sure whether pro or standard yet. I know a few people here use it. Any last minute comments? Is...
What ideas have you got for the new servers (I know a lot depends on the amount of cash raised).
I can't remember what the current specs of the HTF servers are, but it seems that the main overhead of HTF is the database. Xeon processors seem to be recommended for intensive database work...
I'm looking for a good prog to manage my collection of books. I was recommended Readerware but didn't like the interface or the prog itself. Any suggestions? Thanks. Darren.
I've been reluctant to install the buggy V2.0 release of DVD profiler, but have been looking at DVD Collector as an alternative. Anyone here using it? What are you impressions? At first glance, it looks to be optimized for Region 4, but can handle other regions.
Darren.
I'm thinking about an external CDRW for my laptop (really wish I'd waited to get one with an internal CDRW now). What do people think about either getting a USB 2.0 PC Card for the latop, or using its existing Firewire interface. What are the pros & cons of each interface? Thanks...
