A brief word about The Women of Route 66 screen cap presentations. I think of these as a graphic novel, (or as Jeff called it, photo essays), telling the complete story from beginning to end using pictures rather than seeing motion and hearing sound. If you have never actually watched any of these Route 66 episodes and you don’t want to know that a plot development is about to be revealed, then you should not view these. I have attempted to utilize this forum’s Inline Spoiler Alert feature but it wasn’t designed for use with multiple images. Another alternative for those of you who do not have access to Route 66 on DVD or streaming, is to see every episode here on YouTube prior to viewing these caps. Thank you all and enjoy!

Once you start the series of “Men of Gomer Pyle” photo essays I think the female traffic will quintuple....😀

You mean once you start the “Men of Gomer Pyle” photo essays. And when you do, you can direct them here so they aren't subjected to any spoilers.

Can you believe how bold these folks are on YouTube? This channel is called Gomer Pyle USMC Episodes DVDRip. Whatever happened to copyrights? The P/Q is nearly as good as the DVD's I imagine? 10 months online. Will be interesting to see how long these are up. You'd better get crackin' soon before they're pulled.

Maybe I should post some Gomer's over at Obscure? Naaahhhh.

Wow, those are some razor sharp screencaps for "Between Hello and Goodbye," Neal! Susan Oliver at her most glamorous (and, conversely, least glamorous) :)
Thank you Jeff. The print is so good all the caps required was some sharpening. Ms. Oliver played a great psycho!! Like Randall said, some of us have met a few over the years.

Starr of the Yankees (1965) [Unsold Pilot] Director Arthur Hiller Writer Freeman Dean Stars Martin Milner Stuart Whitman David Thursby

New York Yankee rookie Joe Starr (Martin Milner) attempts to make a comeback after being injured when he is hit in the head by a baseball during a game. Even though this was presented on CBS General Foods Vacation Playhouse on July 23, 1965, this was actually produced as a proposed syndicated series in 1958 {Martin Milner confirmed this to Lee Goldberg in his book, Unsold Television Pilots - 1955 through 1988.

Hank, there is only one easy option to own The Complete Series and that's to buy The Complete Series. It's the only way to own Season 4, which is a must-have.

If you are Cuckoo for Cocoa Puffs Route 66 crazy like Randall and I then you'll have to double dip and buy the Roxbury editions of Seasons 2 and 3. Both are OOP and if you find them at Amazon or eBay you'll be at the mercy of 3rd party price gougers who know this.

Sorry to correct you, Neal, but Shout! actually did the right thing for fans (like myself) who had bought the previous three seasons through Roxbury/Infinity, and released a separate Route 66 S4 DVD set back in 2013. It's available via Amazon here.

Original concept and trial pilot

In the original concept under discussion between Silliphant and producer Leonard, the two series leads were to be ex-army men who had left the service and were looking to re-establish themselves in American life. George Maharis was signed to a contract by Leonard before the Route 66 concept had been fully developed, and was set to be a cast member from the beginning. Actor Robert Morris was set to be the other lead.

Morris was cast beside Maharis in a 1959 episode of Naked City that was written by Silliphant as a backdoor pilot to a potential spin-off series featuring two young travelers who were looking to find themselves. At that point, the Route 66 title was not yet decided upon, and the potential spin-off was tentatively entitled The Searchers. The Naked City episode that served as the Searchers pilot was called "Four Sweet Corners", and in it, Maharis played Johnny Gary, while Morris was Link Ridgeway. Both were ex-servicemen. After spending most of the episode rescuing Johnny's kid sister from a shoplifting ring, the two friends decided they were too restless to stay in New York City, and more of the world existed that they had to see. Johnny and Link ended the episode by leaving Johnny's family's apartment building, setting out for parts unknown.

The half-hour pilot and the chemistry between the leads was judged to be good by the producers, although Leonard could not interest a network or a sponsor in the spin-off show. Morris died in May 1960 at age 25 of a cerebral hemorrhage, before any series could go into production.[3]

The concept was subsequently reworked. The title of the series became Route 66, the leads became Tod and Buz, and neither had ties to the army. Maharis was given the role of Buz, while Martin Milner beat several actors (including Robert Redford) for the role of Tod. Leonard personally financed the shooting of a new hour-long pilot episode "Black November", written by Silliphant) and CBS picked up the series in 1960.

Naked City 1958-1963 Season One (1958-1959 S01E31 Four Sweet Corners (April 28, 1959) Director Stuart Rosenberg Writer Stirling Silliphant Stars James Franciscus Horace McMahon Harry Bellaver George Maharis Robert Morris Irene Dailey Rochelle Oliver Mary Perry Martha Greenhouse Patrick J. Kelly

A soldier returns home to find that his baby sister has become part of a shoplifting ring that has attracted the detectives' attention.

Route 66 (1960-1964) Stars Martin Milner George Maharis Glenn Corbett S01E01 Black November (October 7, 1960) Stars Everett Sloane Patty McCormack Keir Dullea Whit Bissell Malcolm Atterbury Guy Raymond George Kennedy Robert Sorrells House Jameson

Leaving New York City behind, Tod and Buz begin their search "to catch a star" and find themselves in a nightmare right out of "Bad Day at Black Rock." The unfriendly, suspicious, and violent residents of a tiny Mississippi town have a long-held secret--and they will kill to protect it.

And may I add that "Black November" was filmed on location in the tiny town of Concord, KY. A video of the town then and now can be found on YT.
