I see this new projector has the HD2 mustang chip and is much cheaper than the screenplay and other DLP projectors. Does anybody know anything about this projector? I am considering buying it. I just got a price quote from projectorpeople.com for $2700.00! That is by far the lowest price I have got for a HD2 projector.

Who did you talk to? Are you sure that you mean the 8700 or the 7800? I just checked the site, and the closest thing to that price that you were quoted is for the 7800 is $2,700!! I would kill to have a 8700 for $2,700. But, unfortunately, according to their site, the 8700 is still around $4,000. If you know the specs for HDTV, you would know that the minimum resolution is 1280 x 720. I know that latter standards were adopted to make exceptions to the HDTV rule. But the 7800 does not have TRUE HDTV resolution. This is considered to be a EDTV or ehanced definition TV. You may find a B-Stock version of the 8700 for that price.

Remember, the minimum requirement for HD is 720p, or 1280x720. If the resolution is less than that, it is not a true HDTV display. You can see HDTV scaled down to the best possible resolution for your display, but that's about it.

Therefore, the 7800 is not a HD2 prjector. Sorry.

I clicked on a price check at the Projectorpeople.com website and they emailed me that quote.

Well if they quoted you a price of $2,700 for the 8700 then it is their mistake and I would jump all over it.
