After months of job searching, I finally got some good news this week, and I'm going to treat myself to a new watch. Does anybody have any recommendations as to which companies offer a relatively nice watch for $125 or less?

I really like the one at the link below, just to give you an idea of the style I'm looking for.

Overstock has some terrific prices on Seiko watches, too, many at or below your price point. Seikos are excellent watches; I've got two of 'em, a Kinetic Windward and a chronograph (which I've had for going on ten years), and anything less than a TAG Heuer or Omega is, IMO, a step down.

There's lots of nice watches out there it just depends on what you're looking for as far as features.

For what its worth I just bought this titanium Wenger on eBay for a great price.

I just bought the above watch at Amazon a couple months ago. It was $65 when I bought it. Great deals can be had on the web . I just made my first purchase on Overstock.com 2 weeks ago. Got a great polished brass bathroom faucet for half price. My web purchasing has been greatly increasing over the last year.

Wow, I've never seen such a boring assortment of watches; just my opinion of course. Get something original and not the typical watch others wear.

HERE is a watch I recently purchased on ebay new for $90 (it retails for $160). I am very happy with it.

Cross is a company know for fine pens - I think they've just recently started selling watches.

Oh yeah - one man's "boring" is another man's "classy".

I would advise you to go to your local mall and check out all the jewelery/watch stores there. I just recently bought a watch and I discovered that most stores will offer you a discount of at least 25%.

Try ebay as well. I picked up a brand new Seiko 'orange monster' there as a 'Buy Now' item for a good 25% cheaper than I could find it anywhere else, even allowing the thing being sent from Hong Kong. And before anyone says anything, yes, it's genuine.

I'd second the Seiko Orange and Black monster, might be a bit hard to hit your $125 price point though, fantastic watch though and worth every penny.

I'd also look at Invicta's, some of them have some rip-off style (they look almost identical to Rolex's);

Still a very nice piece for the money, automatic movement, solid link bracelet, etc. A solid timepiece for the money.

But they have also been expanding their line to include other styles. Like here;

http://shop.vendio.com/invicta/item/...473/index.html
$100 for a manual wind watch, it's classy and different.

I believe this has an auto movement instead of manual wind.

A bit of Cartier style here

http://www.aaawatch.com/9819.htm
And the Lupah series is very popular and available in huge assortment of colors (and customizable - http://www.mylupah.com/ - past your price range though)

(note above links are posts to online stores, I've never bought from them, have no idea if they are good or bad vendors, but posted just to show the style of watch).

Past that I'd stick with the regulars like Seiko or Citizen (for your price range), there is just so much junk out there in the watch world that it's scary, and price is no indicator of quality. Many "designer" (designer as in not a watch designer) brands can be hit or miss, I bought my GF a Coach watch for her birthday one year and it's an absolute piece of garbage, a $30 department store no-name brand is of higher quality.

Yes, stick with a 'watch' name. The rest is mostly rebadged garbage, where you're only paying a premium for name (unless you're buying a bulgari, which is rebadged IWC).

After many years of wearing automatic movement, I'm actually very happy with a titanium Casio G-Shock MRG1. I've had it for 6 years with nary a tear or scratch and only have had to replace the battery once. Very smart looking. Although some of today's G-Shock's are becoming quite gaudy.

Thank you everybody for the wonderful suggestions. Looks like I'll need to put more thought into this, but I actually think I'm even more confused now. = )

I've just checked on ebay and there are quite a few available at well under $125. However, if you are interested in getting one (and I admit it's not something that everyone will like) then be sure you get the version with the metal rather than rubber strap. You can see an interesting review (with some excellent links, including one that actually dissects the watch) here.

i have a few watches, including guess, casio, kenneth cole, revo (and maybe a couple others...i sold my movado). my daily watch is my revo chronograph

i like the rubber band, plus it has a classic, clean look (without trying to be too chrono-graphish). my other watches are more for whatever mode i'm in (sporting, dressing up, etc...)

I've had excellent luck with Seiko, Pulsar and Citizen watches. I've owned several of each and they've all lasted 10+ years.

Check out quality watch replicas... you can get a replica of most high-end brands for ~$125. (these are not the $10 relicas that turn your wrist green...)
