Same. And just to be triple-clear, I am not trying to create some sort of divide based around a college degree. Just exposure to a curriculum that values constantly taking in and analyzing new data to keep evolving one's belief system based on evidence (preferably reliable, scientific-based, peer reviewed) and that "keeping an open mind" and "allowing your views to evolve" are not synonymous with weakness.

A well meaning parent can teach this just as effectively as a college professor.

Meanwhile in the past 24 hours California has passed NY as the state with the most cases.

California is the most populated state in the Union. It was predictable that California would end up with the most confirmed cases.

The figure to watch is the positive testing rate. California is a little over 7% (7 out of of 100 tests come back positive). That compares quite favorably to Florida (18-20%) and Arizona (25-30%).

Staying home sure has boosted our checking account. We rarely get takeout food and we aren't spending money going to our favorite casino either. The checking account keeps growing and growing. In fact, it's pretty amazing how much disposable income we ran through during normal times.

This is all so horrifically depressing. My mask protects you; your mask protects me. When you refuse to wear a mask, what you’re saying is you don’t care about my health or safety; what you’re saying is that you want me and (by extension) my family to die. Why do you hate me so much that you want me to die?

I was shocked to see a CNN news video of a city hall meeting where folks coming up to the podium to speak saying "masks are the work of the Devil" ,"wearing a mask will kill you" and "Doctors and Scientist who say wear a mask should be in jail".

Some people say wearing a mask takes away your freedom. That’s actually not it at all. You not wearing a mask takes away my freedom.

The Declaration of Independence famously promises that we are all entitled to life, liberty and the pursuit of happiness.

If you refuse to wear a mask, it becomes unsafe for me to be anywhere you are. You take away my ability to engage in the pursuit of happiness because you make it dangerous for me to participate in society.

If it’s dangerous for me to participate in society, then I must sequester myself at home. I cannot move around freely, nor can I have contact with others, because they’re no longer free to move either. Your refusal to wear a mask directly curtails my liberty.

My mask protects you; your mask protects me. If you refuse to wear one, you endanger my life, the first and most essential freedom that our Declaration of Independence promises us.

Masks don’t take away our freedom; people who refuse to wear masks take away our freedom.

We have businesses here in San Diego that are taking the health and safety of their workers very seriously. They've hired stout private security guys to stand outside the business and enforce the mask rule for those that enter the business. One of the security guards was interviewed on the news and there's no way I'd want to argue with that guy!

In the "well duh" department, those science folks say that the people leaving their noses uncovered and wearing masks for chinstraps might as well not even bother wearing them

Again, duh. But for some reason, people need to be told that.

A friend sent me a photo of a sign in a business’s window. It had two graphics. The first depicted a person wearing a mask so the full nose was exposed. Above that graphic was printed, “Wearing your mask like this...”.

The second graphic was accompanied by text that read, “Is like wearing your underwear like this!” The second graphic showed a male organ hanging over the top edge of his underwear.

:)

Well, I posted the above post on Thursday and it took Florida just a few days to pass New York in the number of infections. Texas is probably the next one to pass New York
That's almost unfathomable to me. New York is the center of the media so there was alot of coverage when they were at their worst and they were the epicenter at the beginning when this was at its scariest so NY really sticks out as the worst point of this pandemic to me so it's hard to imagine that this far into the pandemic that they're worse off than NY was especially while other countries are rebounding.

That seems a tricky issue.

AFAIK (and I'm no lawyer), for that to be true in legal terms, the person has to pose provable imminent danger to you by not wearing a mask. Not sure the argument passes muster unless the person is tested positive or at least have provably high likelihood of being infected. Even then, it might not be a slam dunk argument, especially if the person keeps 6ft-plus distance...

Anyway, I'm not at all arguing against proper mask-wearing -- I definitely wear one myself. Just that argument probably won't get very far when not just preaching to the choir...

The best places to test a vaccine are Florida, Texas and Arizona. Basically, any place where a large percentage of the population is ignoring mask and social distancing requirements and the COVID test positivity rating is 20% or higher.

It makes ZERO sense to test the vaccine in Montana.
