Actually, if they're gonna do 70s stuff, how about THE MAGNIFICENT BODYGUARDS with Jackie Chan? Seems like that might move a few copies. Actually, a 3-fer of the 3 chop sockey flicks (that one, DYNASTY, and 13 NUNS) might just sell.
Does the original 3D version of Dynasty with Mandarin language exist? I'd love to see it that way.

Then again, it could be worse. They could be reduced to restoring the 3D porn and nudie films of the 60s and 70s
Well, as a sideline, a few well-transferred porn and nudie 3D films could be sorta cool .

This movie is the reason players come with fast forward and eject buttons. After enduring as much as I could stand, I now think they should also come with a flame-thrower.

Well, it'll look much better and still be rubbish is my prediction. I have a soft spot for rubbish, so I may actually enjoy it. :)

I think we different opinions as to what elements add to a film's quality because I routinely experience stereo with numerous films in our collection. Certainly each of our opinions of each movie and their respective 3-D presentation vary, but there's no shortage from which to draw "experience".

I watched my copy last night and other than a slight hiccup (I'll explain later) I had a blast. This film is not for everybody. If you love watching bad movies on MST3K, then this one is right up your alley. The plot is basically a cheap King Kong knockoff about a giant ape that escapes from a ship and terrorizes Korea. Hilarious one liners, embarrassing editing mistakes, and cheesy special effects are littered throughout. It's not quite as cute as Robot Monster (1953), but still entertaining for those who love these kinds of films.

The 3-D was shot by cinematographer and 3-D legend Dan Symmes using the SpaceVision 3-D rig. The 3-D is strong without hurting my eyes like the 80's 3-D titles like Amityville, Jaws, Comin' At Ya, and Metalstorm do. There are plenty of fun popout moments and plenty of depth to keep a 3-D enthusiast interested.

However, there was a problem with my Oppo BDP-93 player at the 13 minute 15 second mark where the video would begin freezing and stuttering. I had to skip a chapter and rewind back to just after the 13 minute 15 second mark to start the film again. I never had a problem the rest of the way through. I tested the disc on a Samsung 3-D Player, an LG 3-D player, and a Playstation 4 and all of them played that section without any issues, so it appears to be a problem with my player rather than the disc itself.

Big thanks to Bob Furmanek, Greg Kintz, and the 3-D Film Archive for restoring this film.

Bottomline, if you love "so bad it's good" films and you love 3-D, don't hesitate to pick this up.

Two big differences between A*P*E and the 1980's titles that you listed.

Dan Symmes knew what he was doing and Space-Vision was a superior lens.

Greg Kintz did the restoration. Had he done the other titles, he would have made them look MUCH better than the existing transfer. A shame that Shout tried to do the alignment work in-house instead of bringing in someone who knows what they're doing with 3-D.

Watched it tonight, and enjoyed parts of it. Unlike the best bad movies, the pace is too slow and repetitive to be enjoyable throughout. Might be a perfect RiffTrax / MST3K project to fill in the dull bits. There are bits that made me laugh sprinkled throughout, though.

Aside from the opening credits (stereo background, text in only one eye) the whole thing is easy on the eyes and some of the shots are quite nice. Lots of shots have hair in one eye or the other, though it seems like it's mostly in the right. I assume cleanup of that type would have stretched the blu-ray budget a fair deal. The film seemed to be in pretty rough shape here and there, but I'm certain it probably never looked this good theatrically.

The disc had little hiccups in my LG player. Not sure why, but it didn't keep doing it for the majority of the film, just a little at the beginning and towards the end.

Looking forward to the next 3-D Film Archive project.

There was a microscopic budget on this one. The little time and funds available were spent making the 3-D as good as possible. There simply was no opportunity to do advanced color correction or dirt clean-up. That being said, Greg spent many free hours eliminating bad splice-lines.

The opening title is a 3-D Blinkey (first seen in 1922's Plasticon footage on 3-D Rarities) and is on the original camera negative. It's been that way since day one.

I love the work you guys do. Too bad you can't do them all. :)

I had no problems with the disc on my BDP-93, the only "hiccups" I saw were inherent in the film elements. Call me wrong, but I prefer that any "mistakes" such as 3D misalignment and hairs in the gate be left in, as that's how it was seen in theaters. If they didn't fix them then, they shouldn't be fixed now.

That said, this movie is REALLY bad! I wouldn't suggest this for anyone who can't laugh at bad movies. The poster is a hundred times more exciting than the movie itself.

I just have to disagree. If there's dirt and other debris and the budget allows, it should be cleaned up. I doubt the movie creators shot it intending for there to be debris on the film.

There's a grand tradition in these cheap monster exploitation flicks. Often the poster grandly exceeds the movie. :)
