If you are having a hard time with the controls I would suggest not using the analog sticks. Using the d-pad is the way to go. All the buttons are right there easy to reach and you can use the energy weapons MUCH easier if your fingers are already on the d-pad. The only thing I use the analog stick for is turbo (by pressing the RT stick down). I don't even know why they suggest the sticks for control, I can't imagine anybody who is really into the game uses them (of course I've never found a game that I prefered using the sticks with).
