Problem with Mitsubishi 55807 (1 Viewer)

I started having a problem about a month ago when I turn set on. The picture(channel & input info) is arched and distorted and you see rainbow around the arch. It usually lasts a minute or 2 then returns to normal. It has been happening more frequently in last month, and now does it almost every day. Any ideas what it is? I want an idea before I call for service on Monday. Thanks for any help.

That's a known problem with the 55807 that manifests itself after 2-3 years. The solder joints connecting the convergence IC's to the main board fail after repeated heat cycles (turning the set off and on). As the set warms up, the solder joints make contact, which is why it went away after a few minutes. Reflowing the solder joints fixes the problem for another 2-3 years.
