Okay, I think I've got a problem. I got back to playing this game last night and this afternoon and just as I was starting to get involved with the main quest, I got stuck on this early mission. It's the mission in which you have to escort that French ammunitions boat (I think it's called the Ouissea or something like that) to Oxbay, only you're not really supposed to do that; you're supposed to get rid of it one way or another. The problem is I can't seem to do a damn thing with it. I can't shoot at it, I can't board it and kill everyone, I can't escort it out of the port we start at. It just swims around in circles in the bay and if I go to the map screen all I see is my own boat. If I actually go anywhere out to sea and then switch to the boat view, the other ship is gone, presumably because it never left at all. I've tried giving it orders, but nothing seems to work. I'm really hoping this isn't a bug but I can't figure out what I'm overlooking if it's not.

Hey, Gorehound, nice PotC movie review, by the way. You racheted my interest in the film from "Dear God, why?" to "Damn, that sounds pretty hot!" I'll definitely be checking it out for myself based on what you had to say.

(Pardon the use of your gamertag, I just think it suits you very well...) :)

Thanks Dave! Hope you like the movie.

As far as the Pirates game goes, it's amusing to see how little the game has to do with the movie. I know it was supposed to be called Sea Dogs 2 and Bethesda & Disney just sorta morphed their two projects into one...but this game has NOTHING to do with the movie aside from the title!

So I just left the first town and the French have stormed Oxbay. I talked to the governor of the other town and now I'm just aimless. Plus I have no idea how to effectively control this game on the high seas. Looks like it will take some getting used to, but so far I kinda like it.

Well, I restarted my game and this time I was able to shoot that other ship down right after getting in the boats (after letting the other ship soften up by aimlessly ramming into the cliffs). So it looks like I'm back in business. Sheesh :)

I think the governor assigns you to go back to Oxbay, but you have to land on the beach and sneak into the town from the other side of the island.

I think what the game could have really used was a bigger map for the sailing between islands. Even zooming out all the way, you often won't see anything except the island you started out from, so you have to sail blindly around until you run into your destination. The sailing's the toughest part of the game but I think I'm getting the hang of it more and more, both in getting between islands and also the closer in stuff.

In case anyone was still wondering, I just figured out how to see the full map while in sail mode:

Click down in the right thumbstick and then move it around.

Seems simple now, but it took me about an hour to figure it out. Now I can find all the islands!
