I can only hope it's a done deal. It's a solid package available at a good price from Amazon UK if you can't wait.

Update...

Just went to a Fox event last night where I got to take

a look at upcoming catalog releases for this year.

Still trying to secure permission to talk about what

you can expect. I may not be able to do that.

I think I can tell you, however, that the domestic
release of Tora! Tora! Tora! will be the same as the

import as far as the extended version is concerned.

I know many of you were on the fence, like myself,

wondering whether to spring for the import or wait for

the domestic release.

Exactly, whenever I've watched "Tora, Tora, Tora" I fall into a "giant sleep"

Are any of these titles TODD-AO? Would also like to see VON RYANS EXPRESS.

Ron,

Without going into specific titles (I know some of the fall/winter FOX titles not yet announced) How did they look in Blu-ray? Especially the large format films?

Hi Greg!

Unfortunately, this was an event geared towards retailers. I use

the word "unfortunately" because it wasn't meant to show off transfers.

There were several displays showing trailers for the upcoming Fox

releases, but you could not guage transfer quality from them.

We mostly had the opportunity to look at box art and specs on

upcoming releases.

I wish I could talk more about what's coming out -- I am still trying

to secure permission from the studio at least for catalog releases --

but I can tell you that there's a lot of exciting titles coming Q4 from the

studio to Blu-ray.

Thanks Ron. I'm actually excited about a couple of the titles, one in particular which should really look incredible on Blu-ray

The TORA! TORA! TORA! BD (which I did import) is excellent, for discerning viewers who don't need Michael Bay eye candy to entertain them.

I seem to remember quite a few posters who complained about the internet "overreaction"/"nitpickers who will never be satisfied" regarding the first release. Posters that are still posting now. And with the same attitude towards criticism of other releases.

Can you tell us if there was any discussion about any 3D releases (not vintage, of course) upcoming?

Well here it is the middle of October and we have not heard a word on the proposed new transfer of PATTON that Fox said to expect at the end of the year. True it is not the end of the year yet, but getting close. Anyone heard anything. I know hat TORA TORA TORA will see the Blu-ray light in the coming couple of months, but not a word on PATTON.

What happened to all the Q4 catalog releases? Did they get moved to 2012? I know of only one I that knew was coming - but it has only been announced in the UK ("Cleopatra")

That is an excellent question also. They did seem to indicate a bunch of titles would be coming out. And we did not get a new Rogers and Hammerstein this year. I am disappointed.

All the studios have cut back this year, don't what's going on. Fox all but stop releasing films after "Star Wars"

WB, who usually release a bunch each month, has very little coming (Yet George keeps mentioning "The Right Stuff" and "a Streetcar Named Desire" are in the works (even at comic con) yet still no release dates)

Studios usually have a three month window between announcements and street date, yet very little has been announced for Jan or Feb next year expect "Dangerous Liaisons"

I have a feeling it's the economy. I also think you'll see more titles being listed for next year, once spring hits. The usual pattern in January is that it's really, really quiet. By March, things start to pick up a bit, once people have recovered from Xmas and holiday shopping...

(TORA! TORA! TORA! is already available as a region-free Blu-ray, in an edition that includes both the US theatrical and extended Japanese cuts of the film. I assume this will be ported Stateside as well.)
I think the import is wonderful, but I just got word from a friend who was down at Fox a couple of days ago and he reports: "Also, forgot to tell you about “Tora,” from my discussion yesterday. The US version is an entirely new master done from the negative over here. Also, he found a pristine negative of the Japanese version from which December’s release is derived. So, it looks like we’ll be rebuying this one on December 6." I will still hold on to my European edition until I know for sure the domestic is an upgrade.

I'm a bit shocked to read today that they killed two donkeys over in Spain just for this production, Fox said they were old and they were killed humanely, it still leaves a bad taste in my mouth, i can't understand why animals are killed for entertainment, you can argue a case for food but not for pure entertainment unless people are sadists.

I also read an extra claimed a horse had dynamite strapped to its belly and it was blown up, there is no definite proof on that one though but its kinda putting me off the movie and i have always considered it to have some fantastic lines of dialogue, i just hate to read stuff like that, its typical for productions in countries like Spain to not care about animal welfare.

Maybe some people don't care about this sort of stuff ( and thats why it happened ) but i care.
