I'm not sure if i said it right. What I woud like to do is change out my HDD on my existing PC but I'd like to just "move" or 'ghost" my XP off of it to the new one. I know that's better as I wouldn't have to hunt down all my drivers and stuff.
Of course, I'd like to do it on the cheap...meaning free.

if you buy a retail packaged drive like say a western digital, it will probably have software with it that will do this for you

i believe it's called WD lifeguard or dataguard something

I recently did that with a Seagate 1TB SATA hard drive. It came with the necessary software to copy everything from the smaller EIDE original boot drive to the new larger Seagate SATA hard drive.

After booting to the new drive everything worked fine. It did require that Windows XP be validated again which was no problem.

Thanks guys. I haven't bought a new drive before to actually replace an old one. Its usually to add more of them.
