The only reason I singled out Kevin Kline as being too old was in regards to the other people I choose who are near or in their 50's. The four leads should be about the same age. Sally mentions she was 19 in 1941 and the present is 1971 so she is about 49. The men are maybe 3 or 4 years older but they are young, just starting out in life in 1941. If all the actors are near 70 playing 50 it might be more acceptable with Keven Kline.

It's good that @Thomas T included the ages of his dream cast. They are close to the age of the characters in Follies. To think of Close or Streep or Streisand or Peters at this stage, is to think of great-grandmothers instead of 50 somethings. Phyllis and Sally were showgirls in the 1941 edition of the Follies; the show takes place exactly 30 years later (1971).
