I am thinking about building some multimedia speakers for my computer. I was wondering if anybody knows of some decent full range speakers that aren't too expensive. I don't want them to be too big either. Probably around 5" wide, 5" deep and about 10" tall.

Also if anybody knows of some small amps to use to power these let me know,

Thanks,

For a little more low end + power handling, take a look at the Link Removed
I'm probably going to mate a pair of them with a pair of Dayton silk domes with a series crossover @~7k.
Also take a look at the excursion video :D

Rudy, why not skip the tweeter, and just put an inductor in series with the driver to smooth out that rise around 6.5KHz, and live with a little less treble? (the only going on up there are high-hats and cymbols, which aren't too relevant for PC speakers). I think I might give these babies a try, I've been also thinking about making some small PC speakers for my next project.

How big are you going to make your enclosures? 5 or 6 liters?

Pat, because I have 2 pairs of new version Dayton silkies laying around with nothing better to do, so I might as well pair them up with something.

I'm probably going to go for stick towers, probably 5-3/4 wide, 5-3/4 deep and ~40inches tall.

Scarily that nets me around 0.4cf after "braces" and ports..I might be forced to make a rather longish slot port in the bottom venting to the rear.

11liters @ 45hz looks pretty nice though.

I think if I cross at around 8k, just before the rise, I will get flat woofer response to 9-10k, and using a high zeta series XO, you might just be able to get the responses to work out fairly decently.

Rudy,

I am interesed in ordering from Nuera-acoustics!!! Have you purchased anything from them before. Those w4-657's look pretty sweet for the price. What do ya think about pairing those up this the Audax 2MO25F1's for a PC speaker. Or even in an MTM confguration with a powered 8" for the low's

Rich, I ordered from Al (Nuera's owner) before.
I ordered a pair of the close-out 8inch wm0840a6-b's ($25 a piece).
They came in fine, very good packaging material, and they work good for the minimal time I've used them.

I plan on pair them with vifa h26tg-35's I also have sitting around.
Why not pair the w4-657's with the 8incher from Nuera's preorder page? :D VERY high excursion driver, plus tiny box sizes!
Or better yet, grab the 2 or 3inch full ranges and pair them up with a strong woofer....that would be pretty interesting! :)
