After the events of Sept.11 it was my understanding the release of this film was shelved "till further notice"...any word on a release date yet? I'm looking forward to a potential "return to the successful formula" for Arnold, especially with "True Lies 2" beginning production.

Not anytime before maybe next summer, I would guess.
If ever.

There's too much of an investment to shelve it for ever. The earliest I can see them doing it, as in picking a season where the most profit can be earned, is Easter; but I'd look for a late summer 2002. They'll probably be doing a lot of market research to see when the attacks have susided enough in our memories.

It'd be touchy. You wouldn't want to release it too close to the anniversary date, either...

You can forget about this movie for a while. This movie hits to close to home. It will eventually be released, but you're not gonna see it for a long time. I wouldn't be surprised to see them eat this movie and it's cost. That's just how close it hits home.

Spring 2002 is the date Warner is going towards (Buena Vista is doing the same with Big Trouble).

You can bet this will go under some serious editing (ie, Ahnuld's wife and kid will get killed in some kind of cross-fire or car bomb, not a building getting blown up.)

This has never been done to a major film I know, but why can't they wait awhile then release it straight to dvd and vhs BUT have it available for rent only. They could promote the hell out of it just like it was being released in theaters only you'd have to rent it. I'm sure they could make their money back from this film just from rentals alone. Just an idea.

Then if it does well, more studios will start making DVDs for rental-only when they come out, and that's not good.
I just say release it to theaters come 2002, and if it bombs, it bombs. What can ya do? Announce the DVD right after opening weekend if the film tanks.

This is one of the two movies I was really looking forward to this fall. After it was pushed back, I said to myself and my brother "at least theres still Windtalkers", well now I have nothing to really look forward to. About Collateral Damage, Arnie was on Leno the other night and Jay asked him about it, Arnold said that when the audience tells them they want to see it, they will release it. I took from the interview that it wasn't going to be cut. Also, being so close to the release date, perhaps the prints were already made and Warner wouldn't want to pay to have them made again.

I was REALLY looking forward to this movie, but think they are doing the right thing by postponing the film. Hopefully they will release it uncut sometime next year. I think there are enough loyal Arnold fans out there that the film will still do fairly well.
