i'd love to see some of the classics released on hi-def formats like:
-7 samurai
-Citizen Kane
-Casablanca
-Wizard of Oz
-Gone w/Wind
-Ben-Hur
-Lawrence of Arabia

i know stuff like Star Wars, LOTR, Matrix, Back to the Future, Indy and many franchises will get release dates sooner or later, but i'd love to start my collections chronologically =). any word on classics being released in HD?

Paul...

Flash Gordon? Are you serious? We can't even get a decent copy in SD here in R1 and you think this is going to come out in HD? I'd love it too, but I think it would be the LAST movie ever put out on the new format.

which flash gordon ya'll referring to? there's the multi-episode serials from 1937, 38, 40 and there's a few more versions after that. =).

a longshot maybe. probably not something earmarked for the first year, but I don't think its that far out of reach for the exact reason you mention.
A standard def SE should appear at some point in the next year or so, and for that verision they will undoubtedly make a new HD transfer. with that out of the way, an HD release is a no brainer as the standard def release has already subsidized it almot completely.

and if not, since Studio Canal seems to hold the Euro rights to it, and they seem to be on board for HD DVD releases, and the first Tosh players are region free (for HD), we might even get this earlier than that.

To be practical, I think Jaws and Jaws 2 are farther away for an HD release than FG is.

We're talking about the 1980-something "campy" "cheesy" fun version with Sam Jones and Timothy Dalton.

=).

of course we all know it was based on old serial comics during the turn of the 20th century.

the late '30s run were campy and cheesy as hell. so, that's the root of it.
