I have had to move my 5.1 setup (Onkyo TX-706SR + Paradigm monitor 9v6 fronts, Paradigm CC-190 center, and Paradigm mini-monitor v6 surround/rear) to a location where wiring the rear speakers will be problematic.
My preference is to get a new receiver with updated HDMI ports and ARC channel...
I am going to buy a Samsung DLP set in the summer. The issue is stand vs. pedestal. My equipment racks are about ten feet from my display. I will want a DVI-equipped DVD player with the new Sammy. If I get the pedestal set (which I prefer), the DVD player will be 10 feet from the set. A...
I'm pretty attracted to the Samsung 60" DLP set, for all the usual reasons. However, I have a 2 year old and another on the way. My Toshiba 50" RPTV has held up to kid abuse pretty well (banging on the screen when Barney appears). Will this destroy the DLP screen? Is there a viable screen...
I want to buy a display projector for work. I would like this projector to double as an HT device for DVD movies and DVR viewing. HDTV capability is not an issue. I would use this at home in a room with about 15 feet from projector to wall, the wall has room for up to 100" fixed screen...
I have the opportunity to purchase (for work, of course) a presentation projector. It occurred to me that perhaps, after work, this projector could do double-duty as a movie machine. I live in the sticks, so I don't and won't have OTA or cable HD as a source, at least for a while. Any...
Thanks for the magic box suggestion, Jeff. I have already put a Jensen transformer on my cable feed, which eliminated hum from that source. Unfortunately, all of the cable in-line ground transformers block the DC return to the dish which is needed for DirectTV to function. Clay, you are a man...
More interestingly, when the hum from the satellite feed is "on", I can get it to go away by disconnecting and reonnecting the satellite feed. It is as if current "builds up" in the satellite cable, is discharged when the cable is disconnected and reconnected, then "builds up" again.
I finally have an OEM remote (from Rotel) which controls everything I have :). It's not fancy, but neither am I, so we work well together.
The problem that this has caused is that my DVD player and LD player, both Pioneer units, apparantly share some of the same codes, so that turnuing on and...
After installing my Rotel RMB1095/RSP1066 combo, I immediately noticed a loud hum, which many of you here correctly identified as cable-induced (thanks to everyone for the help).
I have an analog cable feed going to a ReplayTV 4160, and a DirectTV feed going to a Sony SAT-B55 receiver, which...
I've just moved and am setting up again. I want a universal remote, and the Pronto models look good. Does anyone know if the Pronto will control a ReplayTV 4000?
I just paid US$3150 for the 1066/1095 combo, I shopped a little in Canada but found no price advantage over the USA, unlike Anthem and Paradigm, which have much lower prices in Canada.
I am looking for a used two channel tube amp to drive Paradigm Studio 40s, but: a) I know nothing about tube amps, and b) I have almost no budget left after AVM-20 and Rotel RMB-1095. Any suggestions for ebay searches or used gear stores would be appreciated!
I am planning a trip to Canada next month, and I am also shopping for a Rotel amp/prepro combo. Is there any advantage to buying Rotel in Canada? There is a HUGE difference in quoted prices for the Anthem AVM-20 Canada vs. USA, does the same apply to Rotel purchases? Thanks.
I need to buy a two channel amp to power Paradigm Studio 40s in my living room. My main amp is a Rotel 1095 for my 5.1 HT. I like "warm" more than I like "bright". Any thoughts, particularly regarding tube amps, would be appreciated.
I am on the verge of spending $3500 on HT sound. I have a 5.1 speaker B&W setup (P6x2, CCM, 601x2, AS-6 sub) in a 15x16x8 room, and I haven't decided about adding 2 more speakers but I may. I'm replacing a Yamaha 2090/DDP-1 Dolby Digital receiver/decoder, so I'm sure whatever I buy will sound...
I am shopping for a 16:9 RPTV to replace a 4:3 Toshiba 50" analog RPTV. My home is in Central NH, 60 miles from the nearest OTA transmitters. This will never change. My realistic signal sources are 1) Progressive scan DVD 2) Regular (interlaced) DVD 3) Laserdisc 4) DirectTV...
Well, OK then, $2600 vs. $3100. Most retailers list the 5800 for $1800 +/- $100, authorized by Denon, with Denon's warranty, etc, etc. If you got a Denon-approved deal for $3100, that's great and congratulations. Do you have an opinion about the question I posted?
I'm moving to my new house next month, and my search for a new receiver/amp/pre-pro needs to be over soon. I like the idea of buying a Denon 5800 ($1800, +/-) and having it upgraded ($800), for a total of $2600 vs. $4300 for the 5803. If I was going to spend $4800, I'd go to Canada and buy...
