Need help picking out a stereo receiver

I need a stereo receiver. I'm going to be feeding it with the line out from my computer's sound card. I have an audigy 2 zs. I'm planning on buying used, so it doesn't have to be a currently produced model. In fact, it would probably better if it were a few years old so that I could get a better...

Seeing Seinfeld live. . . what to wear?

I'm seeing Jerry Seinfeld do stand up live in a couple of weeks. I've been wondering what is appropriate to wear to such an event. It's at a fairly nice auditorium at a university. They hold concerts (orchestra), dance competitions, and the like there. But since I've never seen a comedian live...

    Is this a feasable project?

I've been daydreaming about this idea for a while. . . I want to create a two channel audio system wish computer at the heart of it. Here is what I want to do. . . is it possible? Take the computer with a large hard disk. Rip all of my CDs to lossless WMA. Get a M-Audio Audiophile 2496...

    Best DVD Player within $200

My parents recently purchased a Mitsubishi 16:9 HDTV from Best Buy and part of the deal they got was a "free" $200 gift card. We are going to use that to purchase a progressive scan dvd player, but the catch is that it must come from best buy. So if someone could tell me which is the best way to...

Best way to pass audio on computer to HT receiver?

I'm curious what the best way is to pass the audio being played on a computer, say from a CD or DVD for example to a receiver. You can always get an adapter to plug standard RCA cables into the microjacks on soundcards but I've also seen devices that plug into USB ports that pass the audio...

    Car audio install question

My car stereo install is almost complete, I have one thing to do left and am not sure how I am going to do it yet. I am not sure of the best way to run my speaker wire from the amplifier in the trunk to the speakers in the front doors. It seems like it is going to be extremely difficult to...

In the market for a nice pair of sunglasses

I'm looking to buy some sunglasses. The darker the tint the better because I am a lifeguard and it gets very bright, and squinting becomes a pain if I have to do it for an entire shift. Polarization is a big plus because it takes the reflections off of the water. Is there anything anyone...

    Headphone amps.

I just got my Sennheiser HD-280 Pro's yesterday for dorm and think it'll be best if I get a proper amp to drive them. Wondering if anyone has built a diy headphone amp before. They are 64 ohm headphones, so they don't need tons of power to get loud and I need an amp design that will be simple to...

In the market for a 16x9 RPTV

I'm looking to buy a 16:9 rptv and the budget is going to be around $1,500 but is flexible. Do I have to worry about HDCP, DVI, and the like? Or is buying a tv without these features expected to be future proof. I'm not going to be watching any HDTV due to availability in my area. Sources...

    Lets talk sound cards

I'm custom building a computer for college in the fall and am looking for sound card recomendations. Primary listening will be through some headphones (not 100% sure which ones yet) and will likely have a set of cheap (~$10) stereo speakers hooked up as well. I am thinking that I really...

    Could I port a Tempest in 24x24x24"

Right now my tempest is in a 21.5" cube sealed. I think the largest volume I am going to be able to get away with is a 24" cube. If I create a new enclosure, could I vent it? Or is the volume still unsufficient?

    Car Problem (shift knob removal)

I need to remove my shift knob. It screws on via threads. Is made of aluminum. Pretty sure the actual shifter is steel. Its been on for almost a year. It is secured in place with locktite. I've tried twisting it off many times with my hands. It will not budge. Help.

Well, I am going to be a dentist.

I was recently accepted to dental school at Case Western Reserve University in Cleveland Ohio. I wasn't sure if I was going to attend Case or not, but they presented me with a decently attractive financial package and I'm not passing up this deal. An additional note is that I am a high school...

    Overtime Pay

It is my understanding that if one works over 40 hours per week, he is entitled to time and a half pay for all hours over 40. This is federal law. I have had quite a few paychecks from my job where overtime was not paid to me. I have the pay slips to prove this. I regularly work sundays and...

I'm thinking about an audio solution for when I go off to college next year. I'm thinking about investing in a decent pair of headphones (like a couple hundred dollars.) My current stereo is a pair of JBL S26 with a sealed Adire Tempest DIY sub. How much does one have to invest in headphones...

    Question about ported subs.

Can someone explain to me why below the tuning point, the driver excursion rises dramatically, but the SPL drops rapidly? Logically, it would seem that because the driver makes the bass, when it was moving more, we would have louder sound. I know thats not the case but can not seem to...

    Pioneer 711 vs. 811

In comparing the two I notice two real differences. The 811 does 6.1 The 811 has preamp outs on all channels I will not be using external amplification. I will not be using 6.1 (don't have room) Since I will not be using either of the features that the 811 has to offer over the 711...
