DVD Review HTF REVIEW: "Star Wars Episode II: Attack of the Clones" (HIGHLY RECOMMENDED) (with screen

I agree with many of the things that have already been stated in this thread. The one question I have is with regards to the subtitles? Why did they change the font? When I watch it on my computer, it looks bubbly and too big. I liked the theatrical font better. When you watch the "Movies are...

How do you disable SVM on the Tau?

once you're inside the service mode, do you have any idea which settings stand for SVM? they're all weird abbreviations so I have no idea or can you only disable SVM by physically opening up the TV?

Do progressive DVD players do a better job at anamorphic downconversion?

I should note that the RV-31 does a great job of downconversion on a regular TV but the jagged edges appear on my Tau - so I was wondering if it's just due to the nature of my TV (velocity scan modulation) so if this is the case, should I get a soft downconversion player (like Sony) to...

Do progressive DVD players do a better job at anamorphic downconversion?

I have a Panny RV-31 but I've noticed that it produces jagged edges on some of my movies, even though I've turned the sharpness down all the way. Someone told me that it may have to do with the downconversion of the Panasonic. With that being said, what players do the best job at...

Are there any "good" HTB systems out there?

thanks guys after seeing your recommendations, I did a search and found out that the Kenwood appears to be a good choice among people here the only other unit i'm considering is the Denon (don't know the model number) - but i do believe the Denon is more expensive - however, if i'm not...

Are there any "good" HTB systems out there?

OK, i know that most people here wouldn't be caught dead with one but in my current situation, a good HTB would suffice since it's going to be for a small room, connected to my 24" Tau obviously, HTB's can't complete with dedicated receivers and quality speakers in a big room, but I was...

does the 16x9 mode cut down on jagged edges and edge enhancement? right now I run my RV-31 into my Tau with component and while the picture quality is great, I see a lot of edge enhancement and jagged edges on outlines of actors, even though I've turned the contrast and sharpness down. i was...

Panasonic DVD-RV31, How good is it? worth it?

I have the RV-31 and was wondering if it has a sharper picture than most other players. I've noticed that on most of my dvds, I can see a lot of edge enhancement and "jagged" edges - even though I've turned down the sharpness and contrast, it's still apparent. My question is whether this is...

Two questions about 16 X 9 Enhanced mode

First of all, does it make a huge difference on a 27" TV?? I can appreciate that on a 36" or even a 32", you could definitely see the difference. The reason I ask is because I'm thinking of selling my 24" Tau to a friend and purchasing a 27" Sony Secondly, does the 16x9 mode do anything for...

should I change my RV-31 for another player?

i was thinking it might be the disc since i would see pixelation in a couple of scenes but when i went over them again, i had no problems incidently, did you notice your fast forward/review functions being disabled at all?

should I change my RV-31 for another player?

in light of the pixelation problems I getting with some dvds (i.e. Rush Hour 2) and the fact that Infinifilm dvds seem to lock out the fast forward/review buttons on Panasonic dvds, I find myself considering whether i should get another player even my friends JVC XV-S40, which was $40 cheaper...

Anyone else find Rush Hour 2's video transfer subpar??

when I watch RH2 on my Tau, I notice a lot of edge enhancement - particularily on people's faces. For example, look at Hu Lin's face right before she's going to put the bomb in Jackie's mouth - on my TV, I can definitely see jagged edges around her face but when I watch it on my DVD-ROm, it's...

Adjusting Sharpness on your TV with "digital" movies

actually John, I have a Panasonic Tau :) i haven't had the chance to property calibrate it with either Avia or Video Essentials yet - the best i've done so far is use the THX Optimode on the SW Episode 1 dvd (however, i've heard that Optimode settings are movie-specific) basically, i turn the...

Adjusting Sharpness on your TV with "digital" movies

Whenever I watch most movies, I always turn the sharpness down on my TV to give a more film-like picture (especially since I have a Tau which already has a sharp display) I was wondering if this rule also applies to digitally transferred movies like Shrek, Toy Story or Bug's Life? I mean...

Does TV geometry change with positioning?

I've noticed that when I moved my TV from one side of my room to other, the geometry was worse! before, it was pretty straight, but now that i've moved it, there is a noticeable tilt on the right side, both with DVD's and regular TV. What the heck?!?!

Why do TVs make that cracking/popping sound when they're turned off?

I've noticed that every TV i've owned always makes a "cracking" sound or a "snap" after it's been on for a while. Usually, I notice it after I turn the TV off and it's cooling down. Is this normal for TVs? somebody mentioned to me that it might have something to do with the transisitors or...
