I have Direct tv, with practically everything. I currently rent the reciever. Is it worth buying my own with the tivo feature? If I decide I don't want to use Tivo any more are the recievers still ok. Do these recievers have component out put? how about digital or optical audio? Is it worth it. What can I expect to pay?

You will love TiVo. Be sure to get the integrated unit for the best overall experience. It has RCA, coax, and S-video outputs as well as optical audio. The units are very cheap right now. Hughes models are selling between $0 and $99:

The receiver is usable w/o TiVo service (of course w/o the TiVo features).

Has anybody done this?
