Just for those who are following the online accounts of what's going on at Binions' World Series of Poker 2004, this is the place to be. ESPN will be showing the event later this year, so if you want to be surprised, don't read this thread!

Spoilers of who is in and out of the tournament don't need to be spoilerized. You have been warned.

Here are some insane details of this year's WSOP 2004:

Over 2400 players, and around 200 alternates.

Prize pot is over $24 million

The top 225 finishers will get their $10,000 back, everyone else is "Dead Money".

This is the payout schedule:

1st $5,000,000
2nd $3,500,000
3rd $2,500,000
4th $1,500,000
5th $1,100,000
6th $800,000
7th $675,000
8th $575,000
9th $470,000
10th - 12th $373,000
13th - 15th $275,000
16th - 18th $175,000
19th - 26th $120,000
27th - 36th $80,000
37th - 45th $60,000
46th - 54th $45,000
55th - 81st $25,000
82nd - 108th $20,000
109th - 180th $15,000
181st - 225th $10,000

Moneymaker, last year's winner, is already out. He had A/K, and his opponent had pocket 9's. On the flop, an Ace came up, so Moneymaker was good to go, but a 9 on the river did him in.

Mike Sexton is out.
Daniel Negreanu is out.

The place was packed, and the AC wasn't working on some levels.

Also, it's been reported that on one table, 2 players were each holding a King of Diamond in the hand. Doh! It's gotta be crazy at Binions.

Laura Prepon survived day one, but Tobey Maguire did not. Vince Van Patton is still alive in the tourney.

More casualties:

Phil Ivey
Antonio Esfandiari - the magician
Sam Farha - runnerup last year
Amir Vahedi - blew everything on a 4-6 off suit last year
Men "The Master" Nguyen
TJ Cloutier - has won more no-limit tourneys than anyone else
Ben Affleck - nuff said
Layne Flack - P4P best no-limit holdem player :D
Hoyt Corkins - done well on the WPT
Alan Goehring - won the big WPT championship last season.
Evelyn Ng - black widow of poker
Dutch Boyd - got plenty of air time last year

2400 players!!? Wow, that's mind-boggling. Last year, it was only 839. So how many days will the tournament go now??

Sorry to see Phil Ivey and T.J. Cloutier out already.

It's going to be 7 days (instead of 5 days from last year). They are down to under 1000 players now.

OK, I know this thread is full of spoilers, so I clicked the link, moved directly to the "VERY" bottom of the page to the reply section, and am posting this:

I'm so damn tempted to read all the spoiler posts but I can't... I have to contain myself until this airs on ESPN.

Blasted spoiler threads!!

I can't wait for this on ESPN although I am reading the spoilers, I got way hooked on this last year. I can't believe Moneymaker is gone, and yet given the nature of things I can totally believe it all at the same time.

Doesn't this normally get people shot. ;)

Seriously, do they use multi-decks on these games? I didn't think they did.

It's probably a combination of a QA problem with the deck of cards, and the dealer not checking the deck as carefully as he/she should.

Sorry to see Sam Farha out, loved watching him last year. Seems like most of the big names from last year are already done, but tis the nature of the game.

Amazing how fast it is growing. 3 times as big a field as last year.

Would've liked to been there to see the dual K's. When I was in Vegas in April some guy went absolutely nuts at the table when the dealer pushed the pot to the wrong person.

I'd love to play in this someday but doubt I'll ever be in a position to drop $10,000 for the experience.

Online I'm pretty dominant in 10 player "sit and go" tournaments, but I've never finished higher than the 40's in a several hundred player, multi-table type tournament.

With so many players, and no "read" on the new influx of players, most of the good players are going to suffer plenty of bad beats on the river, because that's that only way to beat the consistently good players. I've read some horror stories on bad beats for this tourney, which appears to be the theme this year. All it takes is one card to break you in this year's event.

Gus is still in, the last I checked. It probably helps that he'll play pretty much any hand he's dealt...

Yesterday Phil Hellmutt was on life support, only $5000, and the blinds are going to start eating into his stack today.

Patrick, thanks for the constant updates, can't access the site at work, banned category "gambling".

Glad to see Helmutt's on the way out, can't stand the guy, never could stand moneymaker either, he got way too lucky on bad moves last year. Anyone know if "Jesus" Ferguson is playing and if so, is he still in?

Thx
