Wiring Issue (1 Viewer)

Just purchased a house with HT wiring in place.. sort of.

They ran nice wiring (Monster THX) which isn't bad, to access points. But at those points, they "end" with bare wire, which in the past, a previous owner had then coupled with their final speaker wire and used caps to twist & hold them together..

These seems like a "no-no" in my HT mindset, but unsure of what extra impedence / loss you'd inherit this way.

It’s not a problem. There is no loss in splicing speaker wires together like that. The only thing is to make sure you have a mechanically sound splice, for the sake of durability. You might want to take a look at this Comprehensive Guide to Cable Splicing.
