If I was to pick one DVD to demo great video on a widescreen HD ready TV with progressive scan and one DVD to demo awesome 5:1 audio, which DVDs would you recommend?

Well since you did not mention whether it had to be live action or animated, I would pick...
    - Shrek (video)
    - The Phantom Menace (audio)

Video: Any computer animated film (personally I'd choose Final Fantasy); Non-Anime: The Talented Mr. Ripley
Audio: Air Force One Chapter 6, Lost In Space Chapter 1, Star Wars Episode One Pod Race and final sabre battle
Saving Private Ryan does have the best sound mix I've ever heard on DVD, but due to its subject matter I have never used this as a demo disc.

Star Wars Episode I should make some jaws drop. Even on a 4:3 TV.
