Hey folks,
Just wanted to share that I replaced my AR Performance
Series C225 Center with an AR Hi-Res AR4C Center Channel
today. I could hear the diffrence in tonal quality between
my Hi-Res mains and my Performance Series Center. Granted
the diffrence was very minimal but it was enough to make
me want a center that ran the same identicle drivers as
my mains. WOW you simply can not tell them apart now as
the sound the mains and centers produce are identicle in
every fashion (with exception that the Center only goes
down to 70Hz of course)
Makes me wish I would have bought AR Hi-Res boolshelfs too.
But since surround is not exactly the same as stereo music
information the Performance Series "work" for rear L/R Surr
and I am going to move the Performance Series center to
the back wall and use it for rear surround.
I may eventualy switch out the Performance Series Bookshelfs
for a pair of Hi-Res AR15's and another AR4C to use as rear
surround but I have to get a new DVD player and a sub first!

Hmmm... I have an AR CS25HO (not sure how good an AR center that is) but I've often thought I could do better.
Besides balancing out your system, do you think the AR4C is a much better center than you had before?
If so, where did you buy it and, if you don't mind, how much?

Paul,
Can I be frank? Here are the different lines of AR speakers.
Phantom
Hi-Res
High Output
Stature Series
Performance Series
The Hi-Res series is the top of the line and are on par with
the best offered by Def-Tech,PSB,nOrh,Paradigm,Klipsch and
any other speakers in the same price range.
All of the Hi-Res series speakers (Towers, Bookshelfs and
Center Channels all use the same driver components and all
use the D'Apolitto Midrange-Tweeter-Midrange arangemant.
The Hi-Res series uses a 5.25" Midrange constructed of
Magnesium-Aluminum alloy machined out of one piece of billet
stock there is no dust cap, just a perfect hemispherical
piston (cone). The Tweeter's are all 1" Diamond Hardened
pure titanium. The Hi-Res towers are all ready for Bi-Wire
and Bi-Amping (non powered versions) or you can go with the
versions that offer internal amplification via Bob Carver
Sunfire amps.
I can not say enough good about them, of course I would
always suggest you listen to them yourself as each speaker
has a unique sound and you may prefer another brand. I love
my AR gear and I know I couldn't have bought a better set of
speakers unless I went out and spend 4 times the money.
