Saw these two titles advertised in a ht magazine while in London. Both titles are currently on sale in Britain, and I wonder if anybody has heard anything about region 1 distribution? I checked the Superbit website and there is no mention of either title. Wrong thread I know, but, while in London, Cape Town, SA, and Cairo, I also discovered my Toshiba laptop is an "all regions" DVD player! Put in a DVD movie from any region, and it displays a list of regions to choose from...it's great! If only our home units were as versatile.

We are the borg...

Jack,

Gladiator will never be a Superbit title in region 01 because this is a DreamWorks title and in all other countries except America distributed by Columbia Tristar.

Godzilla on the other hand is Columbia worldwide and you will see a Superbit dvd of this soon in region 1.

I don't see any point in putting out a Superbit release of Gladiator, it could hardly be much better than the original release.

Godzilla definately needs a Superbit. The current release has fairly muddy picture quality. I don't see a need for a Gladiator Superbit. The current transfer is more than adequate.

I don't know how much help a Superbit edition would be. After all, the current one doesn't exactly cram in the extras - what's on there really doesn't fill much space, so the extra bits available would be minimal. In addition, it's simply a very dark movie - the better to hide CG flaws! Even at best, I think it'll remain fairly murky. Still, I'd be interested in a new release - I'd definitely be curious to hear if DTS helps an already outstanding soundtrack...

Its region free until you use up all 5 of your region changes and then its locked to that last region. Use DVD Genie instead.
