Sony DVD layer change (1 Viewer)

A co-worker has a brand-new Sony DVD player (don't know the model #) that won't play past the layer change on several disks tried so far. Is there a known problem with Sony players or is this more likely a defect?

I'm guessing it is the DVP-NS400 model..I think those are the correct letters.

There have been a ton of complaints about it. I own it, however, and it plays perfectly fine for me.

I haven't heard about the defect being as serious as you described, though...so I would say definitely a defect.
