Hey Gang!

Just got back from Los Angeles where I had the
opportunity to go out to Paramount and Fox studios
to talk with the Home Video department heads.

Not a whole bunch of stuff to report to you (some
of my fellow colleagues who also attended may
have something extra to report), but this is what
I can tell you....

Most likely, there will be no Jerry Lewis DVDs
released by Paramount in 2004. I can't post
specific reasons to the problem other than that
the fault does not lie with Paramount, a studio
that really wishes to give these releases
the attention they deserve.

We are working with Paramount to arrange a special
HTF Member screening of their upcoming DVD, Once
Upon A Time In The West
. The studio is anxious
to do something nice for our members, and we hope
to have some details on this posted for you shortly.

Don't expect the Batman TV series on DVD
anytime soon from Fox Home Video. There are huge
unresolved rights issues with licensing and Warner
Brothers that will probably keep this show off
video shelves for quite a long time. Fox would
really like to get this show out on DVD, if they
could.

In related news, we spent the last couple of
days having drinks and cigars a few feet away
from Frank Gorshin, the original "Riddler" on
Batman. He was staying at our hotel and was
very visible enjoying cocktails with his woman
friend.

Despite all the posted release dates for Lost
In Space
, Fox has indicated that there is no
release date presently for this TV series. It
seems the discs are still in production and that
a release has been slated for an unspecified 2004
date.

Fox has just received their check discs for the
Alien Quadrilogy set. The studio should
be announcing news about this set shortly with a
possible new release date (as the original film
is to be released theatrically first).

Fox Home Video has agreed to do a live chat with
the forum membership. We hope to schedule this
chat in the next few weeks.

That's all I can report here. My colleagues may
follow up with other news from those meetings.

Update and Apology

(posted almost two weeks later 10/8)

I want to post a public apology here....

I always attempt to try to be honest about
all the information I post to this forum. I
don't like to post what I feel to be factual
information about an upcoming release without
having facts to back it up.

In the case of LOST IN SPACE to DVD....

I'm a huge fan of this show. In fact, I have
been politely asking Fox for the past two years
to put this show into production. In a small
way, I think my efforts (and those of the fans
within this forum) are the reason why the show
is finally being released in January.

You noticed that I have finally come to the
conclusion that the show is in fact going to be
released this upcoming January 13th, 2004.

This comes after a little more than a week
after I told all of you that there will be a
delay in the release. This was, from what I
had gathered, to be the situation regarding
Lost In Space when I asked Fox's
Peter Staddon directly about it during a
meeting at the studio in September.

Perhaps something was misunderstood in our
conversation? I don't think so, as there
were 4 other people in the room with me
who all heard the same conversation and can
confirm exactly what was told to me.

This is my opinion on why we were not
given confirmed information....

Fox was obviously days away from making a Press
Release announcement on Lost In Space and
My Darling Clementine. Obviously, Fox
did not want us breaking the news on the net early.

However....

If Fox would have confidentially told us the
information and asked us not to print it, we
would have heeded their request. We have been
told many private things that we have never posted
without authorization. It's a trust that we have
never broken.

Meanwhile, I am given false information and I
end up looking like a fool.

I apologize that I reported information that
I had thought to be correct. Be assured that it
did come straight from Fox and that there were
four others that confirm exactly what I originally
posted.

I'm a little embarrassed. The information I posted
was taken as FACT and passed along to Lost In Space
fan sites and other TV forums as factual. I ended up
with egg in my face as a result.

My apologies again.

We didn't ask about this title.

The Studio Classic line will continue in 2004. Expect more westerns and war film releases in 2004.

It's coming, but I can use some help in letting Fox know how much the membership would like "Leave Her to Heaven" on dvd.

Also, if you want some more film noir releases then you need to let Fox hear from you. They need to be convinced that such titles will sell enough units to justify their ROI.

Crawdaddy - I've never seen the film, but just read the synopsis on IMDB. It sounds like a film that's right up my alley and I'd definitely pick it up on DVD. As you already know I'm a huge film noir fan and would love to see 20th dig into their catalog and release these.

I have several Fox & Paramount titles I wonder about too. But instead of each of us asknig about our own favs, is there anyway you can put up a comprehensive list of every title that was asked about (and the response), or that the execs just told you something about. I think if you do this and state this is a complete listing of every title discussed, it will save the countless, "but what about ..." questions you'd get. Thanks.

Guys,

Really....all that is reported here is basically
what was discussed.

We did talk about a few CLASSIC title releases,
but I'll leave that in the hands of our resident
expert, Robert Crawford.

Wait for him to post the titles he asked about.

Otherwise, nothing more was discussed.

Look for an upcoming Fox chat soon. Hopefully
Paramount will opt to do a chat as well, though
doubtful.

Is there a specific address &/or person that should be written to using either the USPS or email. Thanks.

Also, if there's a list or a link to a list of which noir films they own, that would be great. It probably wouldn't do much good to beg them for This Gun For Hire, if that's not their title. :)

George,
The list of film noir films that belong to Fox is long and distinguished and I'll post a listing of them when I have a little more time. Also, "This Gun For Hire" was originally a Paramount release that now belongs to Universal under the same rights arrangement that "Double Indemnity" became a Universal title.

As someone who posts fairly regularly in the noir threads and lists noir titles in the Fox 'wishlist' threads in Studio Feedback, I would like to know what other avenues should be pursued. ( And I'll be happy to post my wishlist of Fox noirs again. :) )

Okay, here we go with some of those Fox Film Noir titles:
  • House on 92nd Street
  • Leave Her to Heaven
  • The Dark Corner
  • Fallen Angel
  • Somewhere in the Night
  • Kiss of Death
  • Nightmare Alley
  • Call Northside 777
  • Cry of the City
  • Road House
  • The Street With No Name
  • House of Strangers
  • Night and the City
  • Panic in the Streets
  • Where the Sidewalk Ends
  • House on Telegraph Hill
  • Pickup on South Street
  • House of Bamboo
Also, there are still several more titles that I didn't mentioned in this post. I didn't mentioned "Laura" because it's already in the release pipeline.
