The only way i'd consider something like that is if there was a huge markdown in price. If they would have made it to work properly the first time then it wouldn't have been returned in the first place.

Jose,
I paid $425 delivered for an H/K 510 last Feb. which originally MSRP'd for $999...Came with the original factory warranty...have had 0 problems. Even got a new 520 remote from H/K when I reported a problem with the old one that turned out not to exist after all...ooops.:)
There really is no difference in buying situation between new and remanufactured. When new, we have a certain expectation that the product is free of bugs, quirks and impending failure and hope it is backed up by a proper warranty. With remanufactured/refurbished we have the exact same expectation. As long as you get the original warranty, you will be fine.
P.S. In many respects I trust these buys even more as whatever problems sent them back in the first place have been dealt with through servicing/modification. etc. If not, at least you have the warranty, are no worse off and have saved a lot of money on the purchase.

I bought a refurbed Pioneer VSX 709, list $780, no idea of street price, from Refurb Depot for $220, including shipping.

I love it.

I've had good experience with refurbished receivers. I've had them from Philips (still have it - an old prologic FR930), Onkyo (an 828THX for a song), and Pioneer. All represented exceptional bargains. I would buy refurbished again in a heartbeat. If you're not obsessed with the latest and greatest surround modes, it is a great way to get digital action with minimal outlay of cash. I got my Pioneer 606 for a mere $159 from Link Removed a couple years ago. It's got a built-in RF demodulator for my LaserDiscs and plenty of power. My amplifier in the main room was on the fritz for a little while and the 606 filled in as a backup quite well.

I bought a B Stock RX-V2095 directly from Yamaha. It looked brand new to me and has worked perfectly for three years. They said most of the B Stock they had were demos the sales reps used at the various trade shows like the big one in Vegas.

I can tell you firsthand that refurbished HK products are top quality with the full warranty. I wouldn't hesitate to buy them. Refurbished HK models usually have a Z in the part number (AVR 320-Z). I don't have any experience with refurbished products from other makers.

Thanks for all your input. I've decided to save some bucks and go remanufactured from the maker.
