Question about viewing distance and the calculator. (1 Viewer)

I am going to be purchasing my first HDTV in one month. I am going with the Toshiba 42H83. I was thinking about the upcomeing Sony 34XBR960, but I think I sit to far to really appreciate it.

I will be sitting about 8ft 9in from the tv. If I get the Toshiba 42H83, will it be too big/small from this distance? I tried the viewing distance calculator, and that really didn't help, the results were that I would need a bigger tv, which doesn't seem right, I don't want something too big that gives me a headache everytime I look at it.

That should be fine, and you definitely don't have to worry about it being too close. I sit about 7 feet away from my 47" TV and it's just about perfect.
