Oh man, what a discovery this movie was! I can't recall the last time I laughed so hard at a movie that was not intended to be a comedy! Some people might say this is one of those "so bad it's good" movies, and that is true to some extent, but it goes beyond just being bad. It is entertaining for so many reasons. The bad acting and the tasteless script is just part of it. The whole 80's retro thing is funny too--so many bad outfits in one place. And as for the ending, you'll think you know what the ending of this movie is, but you're wrong, you're totally wrong. No one in a million years could guess the ending of this movie!

54. The Curse of Frankenstein (1957) 4/5

55. The Revenge of Frankenstein (1958) 3.5/5

Both these movies are from the Hammer studios and are very entertaining. They both have Peter Cushing as the infamous doctor and the first had Christopher Lee as the monster. It has been so long since I've seen the originals, I really can't compare them anymore.

56. Predator (1987) 4/5

The gore count is high on this one courtesy of an alien who lands on our planet with the intention of hunting man for sport. His prey, a group of commandos on a rescue mission in the Central American jungle. Along with Terminator this is one of Schwarzeneggers best, full of action, alien mayhem and oh yes lots of blood and guts. This is my husband's favourite movie.

Well that's probably it for me this year. We'll be going out this afternoon and I'm not sure what time we'll be home. If it's early I'll try to get another movie in but I doubt it.

I had to go page by page and compile my list because Pg. 1 was useless. I won't have time tomorrow. Next year I'll post a running total so I'm not caught in the snafu that happened this year.

I didn't compile my television episodes since I didn't comment on a couple. Most of them were listed on page 1. Most of the tv episodes were divided between X-files, Buffy and Millennium with a couple of Sanctuary thrown in.

Movies watched= 56 ( 46 new; 10 seen before)

TV eps watched= 22 ( hour long)

Total score = 67 ( that's counting 2 episodes as 1 movie)

Favourite movie this year is: Let the Right One In

Worse movie this year is: Night of the Living Dead 3D

Supernatural: Season 6
Season six will be a season of mystery and shadow. Heaven and Hell have been left in complete disarray since the apocalyptic events of season five. And now, monsters, angels and demons roam across a lawless and chaotic landscape. And so Dean Winchester, who has retired from hunting and sworn never to return, finds himself being pulled back into his old life – pulled back by none other than Sam Winchester, who has escaped from Hell. The two reunite to beat back the rising tide of creatures and demon-spawn, but they quickly realize that neither are who they used to be, their relationship isn’t what it used to be, and that nothing is what it seems.

Episode Watched:
You Can't Handle the Truth
Sam and Dean investigate a rash of suicides and discover that someone is invoking the Goddess of Truth to drive the victims crazy.

My Thoughts:
Another good episode this season. I am really getting into the season long storyline. The stand alone episode storyline is good as well. It has an interesting story and just a touch of gore. The dentist chair thing was a bit on the disturbing side. But I must admit I would have done the same thing at the time. Unfortunately after the episode they had a preview of next week's episode... and they actually had a pretty big spoiler in that short preview clip. Not sure what they were thinking on that one.

My Rating: 4/5

Count:
Movie Count: 105
TV Ep. Count: 56
Other Count: 8

Someone is killing people at a supermarket after hours. Not the best movie in the world (the killer is pretty obvious, most of the score is terrible) but there's some neat directorial flourishes that you don't see in the average slasher film and the gory makeup from KNB is the reason to watch it.

105. The Blob (1988)

A blob falls from the sky (thanks to a germ warfare experiment gone awry) and starts eating people in a town. A very good remake with some nice special effects.

106. The Car

A car possesed kills people in a small desert town. While the concept of a killer car sounds like it would be terrible, the movie is quite good and has some very nice widescreen photgraphy.

I'll likely be watching Halloween, Halloween II and The Walking Dead tonight so my total will probably stand at 107.

EDIT: Someone I know is coming over with the Piranha Blu-ray so my total will keep going.

Last night we went to a bonfire (hey, you gotta socialize sometime!) so I only got five in the whole day, and it was mostly a classics day/night:

Bold denotes first viewings - Italics denotes TV episodes/TV movies - Underlined denotes Splatterfest's.

83. Cat People (1942) (My wife had never seen this, and it took some convincing, but she liked it and said it was interesting for a thriller....praise coming from she who hates horror films)

84. The Old Dark House (1932) (James Whale's under-appreciated classic.....his black humor must have been lost on a lot of the viewers back then)

85. Dead of Night (1945) (I don't know if this has ever been on DVD but my old AMC/TCM tapes from the 90's are worth the rusty tape they are rotting on. Five tales of terror from four different directors..unusual for back then, all five are good but the last one with Hugo the dummy is just psychotic. Great stuff.)

86. Peeping Tom (1960) (wow.....when people tend to idealize the late 50's/early 60's as the innocent Disneyland that Leave it to Beaver portrayed...watch this.)

87. Audition (1999) ("Kiti-kiti-kiti-kitiiii."........Takashi Miike's slow build to one of the more shockingly disturbed endings in film history is pure genius in it's calculatingly sweet slow love story that takes a turn for the truly psychotic)

more today......

109. Exorcist III. (1990). Watched the last half. I feel this one breaks up really well for multiple viewing. That final act is often edge of the seat material. I love all those scenes in the hospital!

110. Poltergeist. (1982) I'd been watching the standard, first release DVD for a while. Now I have to say that this bluray floored me. Beautiful picture...finally! I'll call this among the top experiences for this year, if not THE TOP. Not an unusual thing since I adore this film so much. With nostalgia it's one of those highly emotional films for me that goes beyond how good the actual film is. I think it's a great film in and of itself. But for me it's one of "those films" like Wizard of Oz, Paper Moon, that I'll treasure til the end of my days. And if they come out with a special version on a future technology that takes advantage of 8' Wall sized TV screens of the future, I'll be buying it. One thing, the BD starts playing immediately but auto-selects English 5.1 and not True HD. Took 30 mins for me to notice. I think the difference in sound quality is large and I'll put a note in the box reminding me to select the right sound source for the best effect.

111. The Blair Witch Project. (1999) Coming off Poltergeist I was feeling good. Blair Witch is always a real winner for me. It's a shame many just miss out on how to enjoy a film like this. It was a great idea to have an unscene evil stalking these kids stuck out in the woods. There are many nice touches here and there, like how Heather & Mike eventually start keeping up where one another are later in the film. Another sequel might be coming in 2011. I read on imdb.com that it's in deveopment. I'd see that one in the theater. Hopefully they'll go back to what worked and forget anything like 3D. Keep it simple like Paranormal Activity. This kind of film can be a blast. Very very hopefuly.

112, Psycho IV. (1990) I'm mentioned it being a while. Also, that I'd felt this was better than III. After finally seeing it again I still feel that way. Very very good 2nd sequel here with a lot of stuff going on. The wonderful radio talk show bits, the flashbacks... I'm glad they toned down the over-the-top stuff from III. Perkins shines. I was thinking Henry Thomas wasn't the best choice as far as look. That boy from Trolls looks just like Perkins. Although Thomas is a much better actor. I enjoyed Olivia Hussey and didn't remember her being in this. A nice bonus.

113. Halloween IV. (1988) Tough choice what to watch next, and I'd planned something else before turning it but it didn't happen. I'd always liked this sequel and still do. Not the strongest of the series but still quite enjoyable. Several scenes stayed in my memory for years before seeing it again, like the scene in the store with all the costumes, the scene at the filling station with Loomus.... The mask isn't quite right since it reminds me more of that dude from Deathdream than William Shatner. Ha! This film reminds me that all horror films should have a dog in them so you can worry about whether they are going to make it or not.

114. Creepshow. (1982) On bluray for the first time. I was told NOT to buy this BD so last year I picked up the region 2 DVD set. Very nice set, with great extras. Only problem, the DVD doesn't work on my equipment so it must be watched at my PC. Not good! I have a big TV and that's where I want to watch all movies. So I took a chance when this got cheap and it paid off. I'll just say, yeah no extras but the film looks and sounds terrific on this bluray. But this to watch the movie get the region2 DVD for the extras and you're covered. I paid a total of about $23. I"m happy. Case closed.

115. Village of the Damned. (1060) Got real groggy during this. That sucks since I was looking forward to seening it on DVD for the first time. Looks pretty good. And I've loved the film for years. It's got some real freaky scenes with those kids and I imagine it gave a few folks nightmares when it first came out. Glad to have this DVD finally and look forward to seeing the sequel again, which is included.

It's the Great Pumpkin Charlie Brown. (1966)

Fat Albert's Halloween Special. (1977)

Scooby-Doo Where are You? "What the Hex Is going on?" (1969)

Took in some "other" stuff. Great Pumpkin came out the year I was born and means a lot to me. Certainly been watching it all my life. Fat Albert is also an old favorite I never missed as a kid each Halloween. I 'd like to relive those Saturday mornings when the regular series was on. Happy times that are hard to relive in my 40s. Scooby is another a grew up with. Glad to own that whole series. I guess who it was. Easy. Not enough red herrings, as usual. Haha!

Took a nap at this point. I barely made it through Scooby-Doo.

116. Ghostbusters. (1984) Selected this since it would be weird not to watch it. Laughed here and there but was happy when the credits rolled. Certainly an old favorite though. Just getting tired of all the movie watching.

117. Friday the 13th Part IV: The Final Chapter. (1984) Was going to follow this with one more, The Howling, but this favorite entry in the series closes things about for me. Had it not been for the extra work I could have pushed 140-150 easy and enjoyed myself much more than I did. I call this a bad year.

Saturday turned out to be the better of the last 2 days. I somehow got plenty of sleep. Not a volume day though. I did get out ride my motorcycle after Blair Witch. Almost took a spill in the dirt and banged up my legs a little trying to keep the bike upright. Ouch!

That's all folks!

And that is that, now i have the next 11 days to see if an can watch at least one film from each of the 13 major wars of the US before Veterans Day, if i can just get a copy of The Buccaneer

The Walking Dead (Premier)- Started off Good' sort of a mix of 28 days later meets Romero's night of the dead, pretty graphic for regular cable, damn if AMC really hasn't stepped up its game, with moments that try to make you feel the empathy for the surviving members as they deal with family members missing or worse, solid effort, will be watching to see how this progresses,

Done, it was fun

107. Piranha (1978)

Genetically engineered piranha get out into a river and chew people up. This isn't meant to be a back handed compliment but this is the best of the Jaws rip-offs. A great drive-in era movie with lots of funny jokes and wonderful character actors. If you've never seen it, check it out.

108. The Stepfather (1987)

A man, who wants the perfect family, kills to get it. A very good low budget thriller with an excellent performance from Terry O'Quinn.

Grade: A-

Finished off this year's challenge with a favorite. Despite some dubious acting and questionable casting, I still love this film. It's visually stunning with great sets, scenery, and FX, and a wonderful score by Kilar. Though it could have been much better if they'd passed over Keanu Reeves for a better actor, or maybe flipped him with Cary Elwes and let Elwes play Harker. My favorite 'Dracula' adaptation.

Looks like I finished at 32 again, tie with last year. Between friends & family, working full time, and watching so much football, I just can't seem to get much higher than that. Best new discovery was Daybreakers. Worst film was The Murder Mansion. Upon further consideration, I'd probably give it an "F".

35. Halloween II (2009) (first-time viewing)
This movie had gotten a lot of mixed reviews but I was surprised how good it was. Sure, it's all over the place plotwise--it can't decide whether the important story line is Laurie Strode's mental recovery, Michael's seeking closure in his fractured family, or Loomis's selling out. But visually the movie is a treat and it actually does something few horror movies even aspire to: have an artistic look. The killings aren't very creative: mostly we get the same plunging knife over and over, but the violence seems more real and brutal in this one. This was a great choice for watching on Halloween night, especially for the final costume party scenes, and I look forward to seeing where Rob Zombie takes this franchise.

Three stories about the afterlife are interwoven in director Clint Eastwood's never-less-than-interesting look at how the afterlife affects: a psychic who tires of dealing with the dead; a boy whose twin is killed; and a woman dies but is brought back. Fine performances highlight this adult drama.

The final entry? Maybe, maybe not. Jigsaw's accomplice finds the walls closing in on him, while the final game involves a Jigsaw survivor whose made a forturne cashing in on the Jigsaw murders. And Doctor Gordon from the first entry shows up too. Until the final few moments there's really nothing new here, and even the revelations the closing reel provides doesn't amount to much.

One of the weakest of the new line of Scooby movies has the gang facing scary aliens. There is a surprising twist near the end, and Shaggy falls in love. But the basic mystery is so blah the movie is largely forgettable.

The second season of Rod Serling's Night Gallery is the best, with several terrific tales including The Catepillar (the earwig episode), There Aren't Any More Macbanes, Silent Snow Secret Snow, Cool Air, Camera Obscura, Since Aunt Ada Came to Stay, The Sins of the Fathers, Cool Air, A Question of Fear, Green Fingers, A Feast of Blood, Last Rites for A Dead Druid, and Pickman's Model. The episodes themselves look beautiful, with rich color and detailed production design. This series is underrated most likely because people have seen it in the bastardized syndicated version, which chops up the longer episodes, pads the shorter ones, and inserts truncated episodes of another series - The Sixth Sense.

Perhaps a slight step below Season 2, Season 3 still offers several diverting tales including The Geezenstacks, Baker's Dozen, Black Widows, Seasons of Belief (the Grither episode), My Ghostwriter - The Vampire, and The Milkman Cometh. But the season also offers the worst one I've seen - Let the Games Begin, about an angel and devil who fight for the immortal soul of a recently deceased drunkard.

This is probably the best horror anthology horror TV series ever put on television. It’s a consistently entertaining series with plenty of gruesome fun each episode. The host, an animated puppet called the Cryptkeeper, delivers wonderfully awful puns and plays on words each episode. The series attracted top flight talent in front of and behind the camera and served as directing debuts for the likes of Arnold Schwarzenegger, Michael J. Fox, and Tom Hanks. The quality of the stories dipped a bit in season 4 but rebounded nicely for seasons 5 and 6, and then took another dip in its seventh and final season. Most of the stories were of the “revenge from beyond the grave” when bad people got their supernatural comeuppance by the end. The series also got some notoriety for teaming Kirk Douglas with his son Chris for a horrific lesson in cowardice in the story “Yellow.” Director Robert Zemeckis brought Humphrey Bogart back from the dead for the noir-like episode, “You, murderer,” with the narrative device utilized by Robert Montgomery in The Lady in the Lake (1946). Having re-watched all 93 episodes I think my favorites are “The Man Who Was Death” (the very first one), “House of Horror,” “Doctor of Horror,” and “Cutting Cards.”
