Do you remember when we used to have kid "seasons". There was kite season. There was marbles season. And there was YoYo season.

This Saturday is devoted to local program. Programs produced in your area. I was a Detroit area brat so we had two local areas. The Detroit market and the Windsor Ontario market just across the Detroit river.
I already talked about Milky the Clown as well as other early shows like Wixie weekend don't exist on video.
Our biggest local kids show had to be Soupy Sales. Even though the show went on to be produced elsewhere we always remembered when it was just ours and we had lunch with Soupy. Here is an early one - very bad video quality.

Here's another Detroit local show. I remember when they spent two weeks advertising we could see this guy doing a guest appearance on The Rifleman. He was a shopkeeper sweeping a floor.

We also had the Popeye cartoon run. Our hosts included Poopdeck Paul and later Captain Jolly.

Sadly, no video footage apparently exists.
So how about you guys. Any memories of local kids shows. If you can post video. If you can't, post images. If you can't can't post memories.

The New Temperatures Rising Show aka Temperatures Rising (1972-1974) Stars Cleavon Little Nancy Fox Joan Van Ark

Set at the Capital General Hospital in Washington D.C., follows the adventures of the no-nonsense chief of surgery Dr. Vincent Campanelli and his all-nonsense staff.

American sitcom that aired for two seasons on the ABC network (1972-74). Originally it starred James Whitmore, Cleavon Little, Joan van Ark, Reva Rose, and Nancy Fox. In an attempt to boost the show's ratings (it aired opposite MAUDE) the entire cast except for Little was dropped for the second season and Paul Lynde added in along with a new group of supporting players. The new format didn't work and, after being placed on hiatus in January 1974, the show returned the following summer with yet another cast line up: Joining Lynde and Little were Alice Ghostley, Barbara Rucker, and the returning Nancy Fox. By this time it was too late and the series was canceled permanently. Presented here is "Operation: Bingo", the series' pilot and debut episode which first aired on September 12, 1972. Featured in the episode are Jack Albertson as a curmudgeonly senator (a role he reprised in a later episode) and David Bailey as a young doctor (who reputedly was supposed to be a series regular but was dropped after this episode). (From jknuttel YouTube channel.)

S01E01 Operation Bingo (Sep.12.1972) Pilot Stars Cleavon Little Joan Van Ark Reva Rose Nancy Fox James Whitmore Ned Glass Jack Albertson David Bailey Paul Smith C. Lindsay Workman John Hiestand Larry Fleischman Barbara Carney

In a hospital, one of it's best doctors plans to resign cause he needs to help his father. So Jerry Noland, another doctor and three nurses decide to hold a bingo night so that they could raise enough money to help the doctor's father so that he wouldn't have to resign. And they try to keep the whole thing from Dr. Campanelli, the hospital's by the book Chief of Staff.

I wish Antenna TV would pick up this series. They seem to have good runs of one- and two-season shows. Not sure of how much I watched of this back in 1972-74.

Or maybe Decades could show it as they showed When Things Were Rotten. Better than showing the same year of Dark Shadows over and over,

This is a badass pilot, also available on Timeless/Shout's The Rebel set. Kind of a shame it didn't go to series...but things worked out OK for James Drury. ;)

The only local kids show from the Seattle-Tacoma area that I can clearly remember, Marv, was The J.P. Patches Show, which ran from 1958 - 1981 (more info here). Patches (real name Chris Wedes) even got a name check as one of Krusty the Clown's birthday buddies on The Simpsons episode "Radio Bart".
