I liked the setup with the Bridget and Bobby story, and the resolution, it was very sweet.

The other "main" subplot bordered on surreal at the very end, but the family relationship aspect of the show is pretty good, so I can look past the "crimes" portion.

If ever there was an episode that showed the contstraints of tv time, the 1/24/05 episode showed it. Both subplots just came to an instantaneous resolution and neither were satisfying.

I personally don't believe in the idea of communicating with the dead, but I am willing, even eager to be entertained by a show like this. I loved the X-Files and the Sixth Sense, but this episode was really dissapointing. In the span of a couple of minutes (it seemed) they wrapped up the daughters problem with making friends and and captured the murderer.

A child having problems making friends doesn't get solved that easily. It has become more common for a series to not wrap everything up at the end of every show. It would have been more realistic for the daughter to still retain this problem.

The two-hour pilot was so much better. The Texas Ranger that she worked with, was so much more interesting than any non-regular since.

Allison fears that her marriage is falling apart after consulting with her own psychic, though she went just to find out about Joe's biopsy prognosis (turns out to be benign). Joe is having to work late hours, further making Allison suspicious. Plus finding a card that fell out of Joe's pocket from a person with a gender-neutral name, Kelly, made Allison even more suspicious. After the DA doctors up the search warrant (making it seem that Allison got an anonymous tip), Joe is worried that Allison being exposed on the stand would introduce public ridicule to the family and be a hardship on the daughters.

Then I cackled like a hyena as Allison turned the tables on the lawyer defending a cop killer during his cross examination of Allison. Good stuff.

I think the acting on the show is better than the subplots, but pretty watchable stuff, especially since Allison has integrity and isn't afraid to put her foot down when she has to.

Just past half over now - She could plead the 5th! :)

Whatever is coming up I don't think will be half as good as the daughter in the beginning with her "Bye-Opsey"! That line was a killer! Ha, ha!

Interesting how the family plotline seemed longer than the actual "case" plotline. Also love her reaction and how the episode ended. They seem to be getting their footing...

Just saw a short interview with the Real medium the show is based on. Now she says both her kids have the gift.

It was good TV, but poor 'reality.' Because she didn't turn the tables on him. If anything she turned them on herself. The defense attorney was clearly on the wrong track. He was trying to arouse suspicion that she and the DA were sleeping together. Her 'abilities' weren't even on his radar.
Now he's fully aware of her nature. And pretty quick, every defense counselor in the area will be too.

Not necessarily, the lawyer could easily infer that Allison is one helluva research specialist/analyst, and to avoid her ire at all costs.

I agree with Patrick. I don't think that people would jump to the conclusion that she's a super psychic...and even if he did, spreading the story would just make her release the info she has on him.
No, I think he was thinking that he had run into a woman with a lot of information on him, ergo, the DA has lots of information on him. That's why he shut the hell up.

I'm enjoying the show, although I don't have any belief what-so-ever that any real-life person can have any psychic ability, let alone what is shown on the show. I almost missed last nights show, for some reason my cable system's DVR didn't pick it up as a new show and didn't record it. I noticed about 10 minutes into the episode that it wasn't recording, so I watched it live, which is hard when you are used to fast-forwarding through commercials.

I don't know if it's just me, but Patricia Arquette looks to me to be several months pregnant, either that or she's plumped up a bit lately. If she is pregnant, it makes me a bit uncomfortable because of the amount of drinking she does on the show.

I just think she's gotten much bigger. Hardly the same person as in True Romance.

She looks like a mother of 3 children. It keeps her "real" looking in terms of her normal life and her "job".

What she's doing is a lot bigger than one guy's personal problems. I mean fer Chrissakes, we have a national debate about The Patriot Act, but a prime time 'hero' is circumventing probable cause concerns that are the bedrock of the 4th amendment, and that's gonna go away because somebody cheated on a test decades ago? Any sentient criminal attorney is gonna find a way to get the message out there that this lady, and in turn the entire DA's office, is vulnerable. It's not encessarily gonna blow back on him either, just a few oblique pointers to fellow defense counsel over cocktails and every case prosecuted is gonna have her front and center. And my point was, until she pulled her power play, the guy was convinced that she was having an affair. A notion that was false and could've been squashed with ease.

Patrick,

Odd as I only remember seeing the two little girls in the episodes always with lots of bunk bed shots.

Also, on that same NBC page link is the following two contradictory statements in adjoining paragraphs:

"Allison Dubois (Arquette) is a strong-willed young mother of three, a devoted wife and law student who begins to suspect that she can talk to dead people....

"Sofia Vassilieva and Maria Lark also star as Ariel and Bridget, the Dubois children."

She has the oldest daughter who is always complaining and questioning her. Her middle daughter is the cute one who has the same ability as her mother. And the youngest one is their son who cries when dad is trying to feed him (as seen on last night's show).

I think the show is getting stronger in its storytelling. The writers are avoiding the typical crime case and everything revolves around Alison and her family. This time the resolution to the story was really intriguing and a little creepy, too.

I like how they incorporated the possible pregnancy (stores should have more thoughtfulness when bagging those types of personal items) with her visions. Her husband's disappointment that their "gifted" oldest child doesn't take after him was a nice touch. So now we need to know about their youngest child.

Reed Diamond (Det. Kellerman on HOMICIDE) was effectively creepy as the good samaritan who haunts Alison's dreams. The outcome of this story was a nice change from the usual crime dramas.

And not being glamorous is a strength. A normal family with normal problems, albeit mixed in with abnormal side effects, is refreshing to see on dramatic programs.
