The sixth season of the bonkers, timewarping DC ensemble series will premiere Sunday, May 2 at 8/7c on The CW.

As the end of season five, the Legends -- after an action scene featuring Shake Weights and pogo sticks that was choreographed to "The Thong Song" and featured Sisqo as himself -- destroyed the Loom of Fate and defeated the ancient Fates. Before they could bask in their victory, however, their captain Sara Lance was abducted by aliens. Elsewhere, the Zari from the original timeline voluntarily returned to the totem in order to save her brother, who was only alive in the new timeline, and Mick Rory made meaningful progress repairing his relationship with the daughter that resulted from a one-night stand during one of his forays into the past.

Casting news:
  • Shayan Sobhian, who plays Zari's laid back pot-smoking brother Behrad, has been promoted to series regular.
  • Olivia Swann, who plays somewhat redeemed hellion Astra Logue, has also been promoted to series regular.
  • Adam Tsekhman, who plays the long-suffering and frequently humiliated time agent turned magician's apprentice Gary, has also been promoted to series regular.
  • Lisseth Chavez ("Chicago P.D.") has joined the cast in the series regular role of Esperanza “Spooner” Cruz, a "tough and self-sufficient" young woman who "lives off the grid, devising ingenious tech for the detection of — and defense against — space aliens. And while some might call her paranoid, she calls it being prepared. A survivor of a childhood alien encounter, Spooner now believes she has the ability to communicate telepathically with aliens — making her the perfect recruit for ... the Legends".
  • Raffi Barsoumian will recur as Bishop, "a once-in-a-generation genius" who has "seen the end of the world, and he thinks he has a way to save it." "But despite his purported love of humanity, Bishop isn’t great with people. He pretends to be a groovy bon vivant with a taste for cognac and a killer vinyl collection, but in fact, he’s a sadistic egomaniac who treats all living creatures — human and alien alike — as his scientific playthings."
  • David Ramsey, as part of his wide-ranging Arrowverse deal, will play a mystery role in the upcoming season that is being kept under wraps.
  • Aliyah O’Brien will recur as Kayla, "a fearsome warrior with a high body count and low patience for human incompetence. She’ll be put through her paces working with and against the Legends as she’s certainly not used to messing anything up much less for the better."
Longtime series regular Maisie Richardson-Sellers is not returning for Season 6.

The show has already been renewed for a seventh season, which Dominic Purcell has hinted will be his last:

If the show continues that would mean Caity Lotz would be the sole remaining original cast member except for Gideon (Amy Pemberton). Would be nice if before the end and after Covid 19 they had an episode featuring the complete original team, including the Hawks. As they travel through time being dead shouldn't prevent someone from participating in a reunion.

When the show started the producers said the cast would change over time and it certainly has but slower than I thought it would.

Good to have this show back. Fun revelation about Gary, and Lisseth Chavez's character reminds me a bit of Randy Quaid's character in Independence Day -- which means she'll fit right in here.

A nice start to the season. Gary's identity took me completely by surprise and I am not sure that it tracks with everything we've seen happen to him in the past - the nipple for example. Still, it is all loads of fun.

Too bad they killed off Spartacus so soon. I think it would have been fun to have him and Sara trying to get home for a few episodes rather than an out of no where alien Gary, Gary's spy mission for the aliens must have been for many years considering that he was Ava's assistant when introduced and we don't know how long he had that position.

The premiere was a lot of fun, as usual. Not sure about the Gary thing; I generally don't like those kind of retcons.

Some standout moments:
  • Behrad bonding with Fidel Castro during the Cuban Missile Crisis after plying him with edibles.
  • JFK and his Harvard brain trust playing actual football with the nuclear football against the Pentagon's top generals.
  • Mick Rory wanting to bang Kayla the alien.

The latest episode was a real hoot, especially with the segment animated like a Disney princess movie. This show may not be perfect, but it’s always fresh.

I haven't seen the most recent episode, but was pleasantly surprised that the episode before resolved the Sara Lance kidnapped plot. It is about the halfway point of the season. Very glad that did not take the whole season.

The show continues making its own way in a style of its own.

Nice seeing the not-Diggle in the western episode. The CW are giving David Ramsey a decent amount of work spread out amongst the shows.

Trailer for the remainder of the season:

Some Season 7 news:
  • The show is losing access to the John Constantine character as Warner Bros. attempts to launch a more "racially diverse" version of the character headlining a new HBO Max series. However, Matt Ryan will be back next season playing a new character, similar to how Maisie Richardson-Sellers stayed with the show after Amaya was written out.
  • Amy Louise Pemberton, who has voiced the Waverider's version of the Gideon AI since the series premiered, will be featured in corporeal form next season.

I liked tonight's finale, which really celebrated the warmth the Legends have for one another aboard the Waverider. I was glad they didn't kill anybody off, and both exits made sense: In Mick's case, it reflects his growth over the course of the series that he would step up and take responsibility. In Constantine's case, he was never exactly a perfect fit for the Legends, because he's never been much of a team player. I do hope both make appearances again down the road, like some of the other former Legends have done.

The cliffhanger leaves things pretty wide open for Season 7.
