I was wondering if Lake was really that short compared to Tone, but I see at IMDb that Lake was just a bit over 5 feet.
She was tiny and wasn't even 5 feet. She was about two inches shorter than that.I was wondering if Lake was really that short compared to Tone, but I see at IMDb that Lake was just a bit over 5 feet.
That is why Alan Ladd liked working with her in the films they made together because he wasn't very tall. Most sources listed him at about 5' 6".She was tiny and wasn't even 5 feet. She was about two inches shorter than that.
If that...That is why Alan Ladd liked working with her in the films they made together because he wasn't very tall. Most sources listed him at about 5' 6".
According to Sophia Loren, when she was making Boy On A Dolphin with Ladd, they had to dig a hole for her stand in when she did her scenes with him so she wouldn't tower over him. In her prime, Sophia was 5'9".That is why Alan Ladd liked working with her in the films they made together because he wasn't very tall. Most sources listed him at about 5' 6".
... and even greater tag line. They don't write 'em like they used to.Great cover.
What do people think about this one? Some of the WWII films have intriguing premises but don't really deliver imo (e.g., Passage to Marseilles). I'm interested in this but have no familiarity with it.Coming May 28th!

Based on the novel by W. Somerset Maugham (Of Human Bondage) and made at the height of the Second World War, The Hour Before the Dawn stars Franchot Tone (Five Graves to Cairo) as Jim Hetherton, a pacifist Englishman who becomes a conscientious objector at the onset of WWII. The sultry Veronica Lake (So Proudly We Hail) plays Dora Bruckmann, the beautiful Austrian refugee whom Jim marries. But what neither he nor anyone else suspects is that Dora is actually an agent planted by the Nazis, and her main concern is finding the location of a secret airfield in the vicinity of the Hetherton estate in order to help Hitler’s planned invasion. By preying on his beliefs, Dora manages to manipulate Jim into potentially betraying his country. Billed as “a story of turbulent emotions, exciting times, impassioned love…and a sinister, deadly secret,” The Hour Before the Dawn was directed by Frank Tuttle (Lucky Jordan, This Gun for Hire), shot by John F. Seitz (The Lost Weekend) and scored by Miklós Rózsa (Secret Beyond the Door).

That’s correct.View attachment 217878
Is the CHASE base on Woolrich's "Black Path of Fear"?
Plots sounds about the same.
On SUSPENSE Brian Donlevy(1944) and Cary Grant(1946) did radio plays of "Black Path of Fear".
“It sucks while it cuts!”So you're saying you think it sucks ...

Another one I'll be adding to my collection.Coming May 28th!

After World War II, Larry (Ladd) learns that his flying buddy Mike will only live a short while longer due to shrapnel injuries. In order to finance one last wild trip for his friend, he accepts a lucrative flying job from a crooked profiteer. The plane takes off with sultry secretary Susan (Lake) on board—who, of course, falls for dashing Larry. However, danger awaits them when they’re forced to land their plane—and smuggled cargo—in Vietnam, with the police hot on their trail.
