What's new

Just hooked up new Velodyne 12" CHT - sounds a bit too muddy - any suggestions? (1 Viewer)

Well, here is what's been happening.

I have been experimenting with the following since Geoff's post.

Velo sub volume at dot 2
receiver sub volume at -14 (scale -20 to 0 )

This was a noticable improvement on what I had before (when receiver was zero and velo sub at 1 or 1.25 dot)

Then, I tried this

Velo sub volume at dot 3
receiver sub volume at -18

This sounds just maybe very, very slightly better (than dot 2 volume and -14).

I am going to experiment between 14 and 18.

Also...Geoff,

When you say don't run hotter than -7, what does "hotter" mean? You mean don't run between -7 and 0? So, staying around -16 seems fine. That is where I am at now.

At -16, I am at dot 2.5.

Exactllllly!!! I edited my last post you might want to check that out.

You got the idea now, just keep experimenting...! Don't forget to try the Velos crossover as this may help also. If it dosn't help just put it back to the way you had it.

Geoff

Dave you will find that you will adjust your sub gain at the receiver with different movies and CD's because bass content will vary. Usually more for HT and less for music. You will have a good "Reference - middle ground now".

I spent some time experimenting with both crossovers and noticed no difference (unless knob was turned to 40 or 50 hz then I got less bass).

So, I am just going to use the receiver's crossover.

If I notice anything different with experimenting, I'll let you guys know.

I just want to thank Steve, Geoff, and Richard (and everyone else) for advice. My sub definitely sounds much better right now than it did when I started this thread!
