I think 2006 has been a very sorry year for tv releases on dvd. Here just a small sample of things I thought if not released, at least be announced by now as to when more are sets are coming out.

Fantasy Island. It's been 6 months, and not even a mention of the second season. What gives? I love this show.

Hart to Hart season 2. Where is the second season? Remington Steele is on it's 3rd season, and it's not even as good.

Nancy Drew/Hardy Boys. Will we see any more? Somehow I doubt it.

Different Strokes. I know season 2 was released, but at this rate, it will be 2013 by the time I complete the series.

The Wonder Years. It would sell very well. It needs to be released.

Finally...I know I was hoping for a whole lot, but I thought I would see at least an announcement for the release of Happy Days, LAverne, and Shirley, and Mork and Mindy season 2. Oh well I give up I'm selling my first season sets.

I think that in 2004, and 2005 the market for tv dvd sets became over saturated. This may have killed a lot of series before they had a chance to make it to their next set on dvd. more disappointments:

Who's The Boss?

Quincy

I hope Universal does the right thing, and releases more Charles In Charge, and Gimme a Break this year.

With the announcement of The Incredible Hulk, and possibly St. Elsewhere season 1 coming out this year, things may pick up and save 2006 from what I feel is the worst year for tv on dvd since this whole thing started about 7 years ago.

I guess we all have what we consider to be best years of TV/DVD releases during the past few years. So far, '06 has been a very good one for me:

Hill Street Blues - S1
I Dream of Jeannie - S1
Knots Landing - S1
Mickey Spillane's Mike Hammer - Double Feature (More Than Murder / Murder Me, Murder You)
Time Tunnel - S1 V1
Rat Patrol - S1
Voyage to the Bottom Of the Sea - S1 V1

Continuations of series:

A-Team - S3
Columbo - S4
Dallas - S4
Lois & Clark S2

It's slowed up a little in April but May and June look great:

'BIG VALLEY' S1 RELEASE TUE 05/16
'HILL ST BLUES S2' RELEASE TUE 05/16
'TIME TUNNEL' V2 RELEASE TUE 06/06
'ROCKFORD FILES' S2 RELEASE TUE 06/13
'LOIS & CLARK' S3 RELEASE TUE 06/20
'COLUMBO' S5 RELEASE TUE 06/27

July is one of the BIG ones I've been wanting for a long time:

'PERRY MASON S1 V1' RELEASE TUE 07/11

And completing:
'VOYAGE' S1 V2 RELEASE TUE 07/11

...and....Clint Eastwood way before "Dirty Harry" or the "Spagetti" westerns:
'RAWHIDE' S1 RELEASE TUE 07/25

"Rolllin', Rolllin', Rolllin', though by budget's swollen, keep them disc's a-comin', Rawhide...."

Like every year, I guess it all depends on what you're into. For me, there's been some pretty good years before this so a lull or drop off seemed inevitable. There's still some titles that I would love to see hit DVD but I currently have so many titles that I never thought would be released that I can't complain. :)

I'm kinda happy for the lull in TVonDVD releases that I really want. I just counted 61 season sets that I have yet to watch. :)

I can't complain... a lot of releases I care about are coming out steadily. When I look at the coming months I don't know how I will be able to get them all... I am looking at... All taken from TVShowsonDVD.com's Upcoming Releases

Still need to get for April:
  • Doogie Howser, M.D.: Season 4
  • The Sentinal: Season 1
For May:
  • Dinosaurs: Season 1 & 2
  • The 4400: Season 2
  • Boston Legal: Season 1
  • M*A*S*H: Season 10
  • Wings: Season 1 & 2
  • Dukes of Hazzard: Season 10
  • Joey: Season 1
  • Night Stalker: Complete Series
  • Numb3rs: Season 1
For June:
  • Charmed: Season 5
  • NCIS: Season 1
  • Dead Zone: Season 4
  • Dharma & Greg: Season 1
  • Medium: Season 1
  • Adventures of Superman: Seasons 3 & 4
  • Lois & Clark: Season 3
  • Superboy: Season 1
  • Superman: The Animated Series: Vol. 3
  • Superman: The Animated Series: Brainiac Attacks
  • Masters of Horror: Dear Woman (John Landis)
  • Masters of Horror: Sick Girl (Lucky McKee)
  • Monk: Season 4
For July:
  • Adventures of Brisco County, Jr.: The Complete Series
  • Amazing Stories: Season 1
  • JAG: Season 1
  • Tales from the Crypt: Season 4
As you can see I have very many tastes of shows I enjoy... and these are just my must have's... not ones I am just considering at this point.

It seems like a slower year, but that could simply be because so much of what I am looking for has either been released (the last 4 years has been tremendous for TV DVDs) or is not even on the schedule yet. There's two major releases I am waiting on (Get Smart, said to be coming this year, and Batman, which is nowhere in sight), and a bunch of old animated shows. So its probably all relative to what your interests are, but it seems like a slower year so far. Which is fine -- maybe it means I can finally go back and re-watch much of what I have bought in the past.

Adventures of Superman S2
Bewitched Season 3
I Dream of Jeannie S1
Voyage to The bottom of The Sea S1 Vol1
Tales From the crypt S3
Hogan's Heroes S3
Brady Bunch S5

Coming Soon

That Girl
F-Troop
Perry Mason Vol 1
Andy Griffith S6

I'll be parting with a good cjunk of change and that goes only August. A banner year for tv on dvd.

I don't know - I'm hopeful we might see more. A new Nancy Drew feature film is currently being shot starring Julia Roberts' niece, IIRC, so I reckon Universal might be keen to capitalise with tie-in DVD releases featuring the girl detective. I only hope they bring more Hardy Boys with them.

Love this show!

Well, the arrival of Dr. Katz, likely appearance of The Tick and new King of the Hill and Mystery Science Theatre 3K sets augur well, but the lack of any continuations of the main three Law and Order series disappoints.

It hasn't been that bad for me, personally. For instance:

Bewitched Season 3
Dallas Season 4
Diff'rent Strokes Season 2
Gimme a Break Season 1
Golden Girls Season 4
I Dream of Jeannie Season 1
Knots Landing Season 1
The Pink Panther Cartoon Collection

and that's only what I have bought so far. I still want:

All in the Family Season 5
Archie Bunker's Place Season 1
The Bob Newhart Show Season 3
Hill Street Blues Season 1
The Mary Tyler Moore Show Season 3

and coming up will be:

Animaniacs Volume 1
Cheers Season 8
Dallas Season 5
Dinosaurs Seasons 1 & 2
DuckTales Volume 2
The Facts of Life Seasons 1 & 2
Golden Girls Season 5
Hill Street Blues Season 2
I Dream of Jeannie Season 2
I Love Lucy Season 6
Kate & Allie Season 1
King of the Hill Season 6
M*A*S*H Season 10
The Mary Tyler Moore Show Season 4
The Nanny Season 2
Pinky and the Brain Volume 1
Punky Brewster Season 3
The Waltons Season 3

Overall I'd consider that a fairly respectable quantity of releases.

I've had a handful of stuff this year so far:
Survivor: Pearl Islands
Growing Pains S1
Cosby Show S2
Fresh Prince S3

But I've also bought a bunch of older titles, so it's not like this year's been pretty sparse so far. Although admittedly, the only guaranteed releases this year that I'll be buying are King of Queens S5 and Survivor: Palau...although I'm sure more are on the way.
