Again how do we know what “entertaining” meant in that context? He could have simply been helping her with her studies.

My point is sometimes people look for stuff that isn’t there.

Professors don't tutor students at their homes. If a student needs help they go to the Professor's office on campus. It is just a movie, but the writer was being lazy in not considering how it would look for Indy to have a student at his house, whether it was for help studying or any other reason.

" Indiana Jones, and the Mystery Of Cancel Culture"
Seriously, now we are invoking "cancel culture" because a concern is brought up over a brain dead writer decision to make Indiana Jones look like he may have committed statutory rape?

Whether he did or he didn't is only being brought up because a writer created that opening by:

A) thinking they were somehow building character by hinting at a darker side, or
B) they were just lazy and didn't think of the ramifications of a couple of throwaway lines.

It's a 40 year old movie. I don't recall any big controversy outside of a couple threads at this forum over the years by a couple of people.

Seems like someone in the press would have asked Ford or Spielberg or Lucas about it sometime over the past four decades if it was widely interpreted in that manner.

Maybe no one has brought it to the attention of a bored reporter yet. We should hope they don't find this thread or they may start asking questions. ;)

Edit: changed headline line seeking. Bored seems more appropriate.

A Professor "entertaining" one of his female students is unethical, morally wrong and a fireable offense.

Not sure it is something you would get fired for but depending on the age of the student your ethics and morals may be questioned. Lots of college students sleep with their professors.

In terms of the Indy pictures this is not something I have given much thought. I have no idea how old or how much younger than Indy Marion is supposed to be. If he was in a relationship with her at 15 that seems pretty out of line.

Out of line? I agree. Morally wrong? I agree.

But to infer statutory rape is stretching it imo.

In general, I think most adults would agree it is taking advantage of a child if you are having a relationship with a 15 year old, unless you are Errol Flynn or Roman Polanski.

The edges were smoothed off in the final version of the film. The scene with the student was cut and Karen Allen was 27-28 when it was shot - and a guy in his mid to late-twenties with a 17-18 year-old is somewhat less objectionable. But at least initially, Lucas, Spielberg and Kasdan were okay with a decidedly creepier Indy.

So, back to the movie at hand, do we know when it takes place?
There were nazis (or at least one) in the trailer, so before Crystal Skull? Or old nazis? Or does it disregard Crystal?

It primarily takes place in 1969, with some WWII-era flashbacks in the opening sequence from what they’ve said.

So almost two decades after Crystal. So what is it this time, Soviets, again, or do we not yet know?
1969 is too early for oil and arabs, no? The first crisis was not until 1973, so the only real enemies were still the Soviets. Or Chinese? Or maybe South America? But he has already been there, hasn't he?
Or maybe it doesn't matter.

Crystal Skull was set in 1957, so 12 years later - more or less the same amount of real world time that has passed between filming.

The trailers would seem to indicate nazis. They also show Indy at one of ticket tape parades for Apollo astronauts. Some former nazis were recruited by the U.S. government to assist in the space race so it’s probably a decent bet that these hints in the trailer are not unrelated.

But as far as the exact plot, who specifically Indiana Jones is facing off against and why, that hasn’t been revealed yet.

it must be the secrets that sell tickets?

The enemy in the 1960's was the establishment, man.
