Help Me Find a New CD/SACD Player (1 Viewer)

I have been trying to find a Sony SCD-XA777ES through Oade.com and although Jim Oade has made several attempts on my behalf to get the unit for me, Sony will not ship him any of the units. The other on line stores that sell the unit either don't discount or have ghastly business reviews.

Can anyone point me to a reliable vendor for the Sony (Jim Oade was selling the units for $2000 delivered) unit or suggest a comparable unit.

Thanks

MT

Have you tried audiogon.com Mike? These range from $1400-1900 depending on condition. I've seen more of these since Sony announce new player.

So how much will the new Sony top of the line SACD player be going for? Not the list? Will Oade be selling the new one?

I bought one of the 777's from Oade. I'd think they would try and sell the new one as well. It listed for 3K and sold for 2K or less. If the new player lists for 3600 it might sell for 2500.

It certainly sounds like a player I'd like to hear.

The Philips 963 offers CD upsampling to 96khz/24bit or 192khz/24bit + very good SACD playback for around $400-450.

Mike, you might want to wait for the 'XA9000ES to come out. Alternatively, you might try J&R Music World (1-800-221-8180) and OneCall (1-800-340-4470) for the 'XA777ES. Both are authorized dealers and both discount. If you tell them that Oade's price is $2000, they may match or come very close. Note, however, that you cannot return an item to OneCall for a refund if you do not like it. You can with J&R. You just pay return shipping there.

Mike, you should look at Marantz players if you can't get a XA777. If you just need stereo, you should see if Acoustic Sounds stille has the Xindek players from China. What few reviews I've found of the Xindeks were very favourable. Good luck and best wishes!

You might also consider a Marantz SA-8260. It's SACD playback is almost as good as a XA777ES.

Thank you all for your helpful advice. I'm going to try J&R and OneCall to see if I can get the same price that Oade quoted on the XA777ES. If I can't I will listen to the XA9000ES and the Marantz units recommended.

Mike, keep us informed. I'd be curious to hear what you end up with and how you like it.
