I'm building a new house and have planned to put all my components in a certain closet. I'm still trying to decide whether to go with a component system or an HTPC. Does anyone have any experience with heat issues in a closet? Should I do something special with venting to get this to work? Do the component systems give off less heat than an HTPC? Anyone done an HT closet and had any heat issues?

I'm not a HVAC guy but.
Add up how many watts all your equipment will be. You can get that info off spec sheets.

lets say that you end up with 7000 watts of equipment.

so, 7000 watts x 3.4129 = 23890.3 BTU's
12,000 Btu per hour = 1 ton of air conditioning load

BUT that is at worse case with at equipment at 100 max.
IMO I bet equipment runs at 50 or 60 percent. so a 1 ton air conditioner for 7000 watts of equipment.

I would consult with your HVAC guy to double check my math. He'll have a better idea on what it takes to remove and cool air from a small space.

If your talking low wattage, Ya might look into a good line voltage fan with a line voltage t-stat..
