Well, granddaughter Susan was traveling voluntarily with the Doctor (although Ian and Barbara were kidnapped).

There has been plenty of other family drama in Classic Doctor Who

Vicki was an orphan, but no attempt was made to reunite her with any extended family.
Victoria’s father had shady dealings, and she fled with the Doctor afterwards
The Doctor-Jo-Dr. Jones had hints of a jealous romantic triangle
Nyssa’ family was part of her introductory story - step-mother turned evil, and father was killed, then possessed by evil.
Turlough was in exile and hiding from his family.
Ace had several family issues in her past, so when she was whisked away, she stayed a runaway

The next Doctor Who: The Collection has been announced - Season 9 (Jon Pertwee's third season).

Currently available to order from Zavvi.
The Amazon UK listing is up (but isn't active - at least not for US buyers).
There is a Jon Pertwee Season 3 listing up on Amazon US - that is active.

The UK version is rumored to be out in late March 2023 (although Amazon UK shows a December 2024 date). No date yet for the US version.

Doctor Who: Power of the Doctor, Special

I guess the last Doctor Who episode before it moves to Disney +

Perhaps HBOMAX keeps what it has and Disney + just gets what is new.

I thought the latest.Dr.Who was.a.person of.colour.

He will be when the next regular season starts. These are three specials. At the end of Jodie Whitaker's run, she regenerated into David Tennant. First time this sort of thing happened. This new Tennant doctor will be #14, instead of #10, and he apparently has a different personality than #10 did. At the end of the third special, he will presumably regenerate into #15, played by Ncuti Gatwa.

Bonnie Langford to return as Melanie Bush alongside the Fifteenth Doctor:
BBC Studios Press Release said:

Mel-come Back! Bonnie Langford Returns to Doctor Who as Mel Bush

June 07, 2023

Star of stage and screen Bonnie Langford will once
again reprise her legendary role as Melanie Bush as
she returns to Doctor Who, this time starring
alongside Ncuti Gatwa who plays the Fifteenth
Doctor in the new series.

Bonnie first entered the world of Doctor Who in 1986 as the companion to the Sixth and Seventh Doctors played by Colin Baker and Sylvester McCoy, before returning in a cameo role in Jodie Whittaker’s final episode as the Thirteenth Doctor.

Making her West End debut at just seven years old in ‘Gone with the Wind’ at Theatre Royal Drury Lane, Bonnie has since gone on to lead an outstanding career. From her countless performances on both Broadway and West End, such as ‘Chicago’, ‘9 to 5’ and ‘Cats’, to her award-winning role as Carmel Kazemi on EastEnders.

Now Bonnie is back, as Melanie returns for another epic adventure.

Bonnie Langford

Bonnie Langford said: "I am absolutely thrilled to be bringing Melanie Bush back. To be part of the exceptional cast, crew and production team led by the force of nature that is Russell T Davies is a career highlight. I’m so privileged and proud to have been a member of the Doctor Who family since the classic era and to be included in the new generation is phenomenal.”

Showrunner, Russell T Davies said: “Open those TARDIS doors wide, because Bonnie’s back! What an honour, delight and hoot to welcome back the character of Melanie, after too long away. And this isn’t just a cameo, Bonnie is right in the thick of the action, battling monsters and chaos and cliffhangers, right at the Doctor's side, just like the old days.”

Doctor Who returns in November 2023 with three special episodes with David Tennant as the Fourteenth Doctor to coincide with the 60th anniversary. Ncuti Gatwa’s first episode as the Fifteenth Doctor will air over the festive period.

Doctor Who will premiere exclusively on the BBC for the UK and Ireland. Disney+ will be the exclusive home for new seasons of Doctor Who outside of the UK and Ireland.

I did not expect to see Mel as a starring character again. I wonder if they will either acknowledge or borrow from some of her Big Finish adventures. There have been quite a lot of good stories there.

Mel was...not...good during her 1.5 season run on the show. I don't blame Bonnie, it was just a bad era of Who in general.

The scene filmed at Camden Market in London shows the 14th Doctor rush to help a woman carrying a large pile of boxes which cover her face, telling her: 'Hang on, hang on. Let me help you.' He takes two boxes one by one and places them on a table, before the woman carrying them is revealed to be 53-year-old Tate's Donna Noble. As Donna thanks the Doctor for the help, he quickly piles the boxes back to cover her face so she cannot see his face, to which she retorts: 'Oi, do you mind? The Doctor then takes the boxes back and looks at Donna, who says they are for 'Rose' The Doctor exclaims 'What? What? What?' as Donna continues to call for 'Rose', as his Rose Tyler should be living on a parallel Earth with a part-human version of the 10th Doctor that was created from his severed hand. But instead of Billie Piper, Yasmin Finney's new character with the same name, the daughter of Donna and her husband Shaun Temple, appears on scene.

Breakdown for the new trailer with therories. Some may consider that to be spoilers.

Remember Disney + is the where this will be broadcast outside the UK. A shame due to the current actors' strike David Tennant and Catherine Tate probably wont be able to promote this.

While it does seem wrong for new episodes not to debut on BBC America, the upside is that we don't have to deal with Disney+ editing the episodes down to fit in more commercials the way BBC America did (at least after the first airing).
