I was thinking of another guy who was very interested in talking about a certain set of New Line films a few years ago. He also would start posts just about a certain project with very little other input to the HTF.

Hmmmmm....

Not against a fan, but unfortunately we live in a world where studios and publicists love to pull the "ordinary guy spreading internet buzz" game, so being cynical comes with the territory.

And even a superfan following the same pattern isn't much different. There's film discussion and then there's blatent "lets use the HTF to promote a film on the downlow".

And I'm not even against this film or these actors. Just think that so far its a rather..."odd" thread.

This looks like it could be good. I thought PerfectMatch was something made up for the film. Hmm...one I HAVEN'T tried! ;)

Her answering her own father's ad was pretty funny, as was the chicken comment.

Things aren't shaping up very well for this film over at Rotten Tomatoes. Bummer. I figured that the combination of two smart actors like John Cusack and Diane Lane could do no wrong.

Yes, but if you read the reviews only one is outright negative. Nearly all of the others say that the film is pleasant, fun and entertaining, but... nothing new or fresh for the genre. Remember that Rottentomatoes have to go one way or the other "fresh" or "rotten" and nearly all of "Must Love Dogs" reviews are in the middle. That is the problem with a black-or-white grading system. Oh well - I'm still gonna check it out because everyone I know whose seen it or knows someone who's seen it thinks it is very good and entertaining.:emoji_thumbsup:

I remember that guy too Seth. Haven't seen him around since the LOTR trilogy ended.

I don't think Martin is a studio plant, even with all his aliases and multiple Diane Lane threads.

I think he's just a super, super, super Diane Lane fan. I mean, one of the threads he started was just about her engagement to Josh Brolin!

I may see this, but it's not looking too promising

Maybe her agent has an intern. ;)

But I'll buy world's biggest fan for now. Anyway, she looked pretty hot on Daily Show the other day. However, I have no plans to see this film still.

I think I feel a bit sorry for her. I mean she is still fairly obscure after 40 odd films, several hits recently and two Golden Globes and an Oscar nomination. I think she is very underrated and obscure considering her talent, beauty and recent success.

Anyway, here are some more good reviews:

It seems to be picking up a bit at Rottentomatoes now. Maybe this will finally make Diane Lane a star.

I also think John Cusack is underrated as well!

I would say that Diane Lane already IS a star, as is John Cusack.

And considering it's running 38% ROTTEN from the Cream Of The Crop, I doubt this film will help either at all.

We saw the film last night and thought it was quite good. It was quite funny without dipping into corniness (at least not much :) or overt attempts at sentimentality. The natural charm of the two leads does help quite a bit.
Christopher Plummer turns in a marvelous performance as well.

This movie will play very well with the 35+ crowd or anyone who prefers story over gross out humor. I'm not sure how it will go over with the 20 somethings since it pokes fun of the shallowness of some of that age bracket.

Well, being in the over-35 crowd, the movie did not play well with me, nor with my wife (who is in the under-35 crowd). I thought the script was really weak. Diane Lane certainly made the most of what she had in the film, but it was just a through-the-motions picture. Weak set-up, too. Every character had their bit to play in the story, and you knew exactly who each one was and what they were going to do before they did it. Besides the fact that these two people were single and looking for someone, we didn't know a whole lot about them. I thought it was one of the weakest scripts I've seen made into a movie in a long time. Had it's moments - most of them Lane's - but I can't recommend it.

Match.com must love the publicity it'll garner from this movie.

I thought it was good, though a little cloying because Sarah and Jake just have really good chemistry, and the obstacles to them getting together seemed a little contrived, but not enough to not recommend it.

I give it 2.75 stars, or a grade of B-.

Well. $13,100,000 from 2,505 theaters. Not bad but not great. It landed at No.5.

I guess Lane will be in obscurity for a while longer.:frowning:

She's a 40 year old actress in Hollywood. As Goldie Hawn said in "First Wives Club" women have three stages in Hollywood: babe, district attorney and Driving Miss Daisy. Even Julia Roberts is fleeing to Broadway. Her cinematic future will now comprise roles as the angst ridden mother of teenage girls. And then she'll be their grandmother.

As a Diane Lane Superfan here, she will not reach obscurity! Diane Lane has that Oscar nomination (which I felt she should have won for) under her belt, and that accounts for a lot!:emoji_thumbsup:

I'd bet that she gets more Oscar nods too, although there will not be one for Must Love Dogs.
