Excellent, though I am assuming the 82 version will still lack the "terrorist" line.
It better not. If it did, it wouldn't be the "original" version, and I won't buy it. While the recent terrorist attacks are horrible beyond belief, that's no excuse to modify old movies to try to shelter people from the word "terrorist" - a word that is printed in the news every single day.

That way, when you do criticize them, you'll be a mile away and you'll have their shoes.

Thank you Steven!!
Now if you could just have a talk with your friend George about these movies he tinkered with a few years ago.....

Ryan, as I understand, the "terrorist" line has been missing from the film for quite some time now, in fact, I heard that it's missing from every home video version of the film, so if it's absent from the dvd, who really cares?

Terrific News. So what was the reason now people were getting up in arms before having any info on what would actually be released????

I'm ecstactic and a definite buy now... if it's true.
REmember we still don't know what up with A.I.
hopefully if there are any changes in either film, both versions will be available via seamless branching.

I pretty sure I read somewhere that the Towers would NOT be removed from A.I...I can't confirm it though...it just doesn't make sense that they would.

Well, the article did mention how people were concerned about the original film no longer being available. Perhaps the outcry encouraged them to alter their plans.

Just curious here, but did Speilberg ACTUALLY say that he wanted to phase the original version out of exsistence, like his pal Lucas said for the original trilogy?
I really don't recall Speilberg ever stating that, I think we all just assumed that's what he was going to do.

It appears to be great news. We'll have to see if this is the original 1982 version or the new original 1982 version.

It seems to be from a reliable source. I would say there's a 80% chance the original version will also be on it. Hopefully, Lucas will change his mind but a doubt that knowing him.

To my knowledge, he's never even mentioned an E.T. DVD. We just assumed he'd pull a Lucas when it came to the home release. Hey, if the assumption helped insure a release of the original, great! And, if he planned to release the original all along, no harm done. The anger was momentary and defused with a single paragraph in USA Today. :)
I do hope Kathleen Kennedy et al. will clarify the contents of the "original" version soon. Hopefully, it'll be the exact cut we saw nearly 20 years ago in the theaters. The cynical part of me still envisions the walkie talkies and no "terrorist" line, with the only real differences being no CGI E.T. and no reinserted scenes/"improved" effects.

Perhaps this is totally unimportant at this stage, but several people in this thread have said they think both versions will be "on" one disc. I get an image of both versions being squeezed onto one side of one disc. That's probably not what you guys mean, but how do you really think Universal will handle this? Would they put it on one side of one disc, on opposite sides of a two-sided disc, on two discs in one set, or in two separate releases? I would almost expect two separate releases, if Spielberg hopes to keep kids from seeing the guns, hearing about terrorists, and experiencing the "bad" 1982 effects.
