No question about it, compared to many of the lists there is a paucity of foreign films on my list. This is mostly due to reasons stated in my disclaimer. While I have viewed more foreign films than my list might suggest, I tend to enjoy these films on a more abstract level. This list was not meant to represent the 'best' films, but merely a guage of films that I currently enjoy quite a bit. While looking for entertainment beyond the confines of contemporary Hollywood filmmaking I have most frequently sought refuge in the Hollywood films of the 30s, 40s, and 50s, with film noir being one of my favorite styles of film. I also tried to include a mix of some contemporary films that I really enjoy vs. limiting my list to the classics.

Anyway, so much for my 'low brow' list.

I like all of the lists in this thread. Lots of great films. If I were to pick one list it might be Lew's with the caveat that I haven't seen Steve Gon's list.

What great lists. I knew going in that I’d like most of them, with likely my only criticism being the films that were excluded, not many the ones that were included.

Arman, Angelo, Brook, Cary and Dome all have lists that I love in particular and while I love Walter’s, I too was surprised at the lack of foreign films (less so after reading his reasoning). I am sure that just like everyone else, I could guess George’s list and it would be another that (for me) just needs the inclusion of more foreign films. Angelo and Cary (like George) has great lists with the exception of (what I consider) some puzzling inclusions (I like The Usual Suspects but #1?).

Alex has the one that is the least like mine, but one that has some of the most interesting inclusions, such as American Movie: The Making of Northwestern.and Repo Man.

The biggest surprise: Dome, without question, where I only disagree with and question Rocky and nitpick at his choice of Star Wars instead of The Empire Strikes Back.

Looking at the final list are we sure that Jack Briggs did not edit at list after the fact?

What can I say? I'm a man of puzzling tastes! And my "top 10" is negotiable on a daily basis.

It's not the best film on my list, and perhaps not truly my favorite, but I'm always entertained by its craftsmanship and style, and I never tire of it. I remember seeing it for the first time and thinking it had no repeatability. I was way off.

At any rate, I'd pack it first when heading to the desert island...
