Looks like it's being shot - at least partially - in IMAX:

I'm still scared because of the Purvis and Wade involvement. I think we'll get what we've gotten for the past twenty-some-odd-years: a well-cast film with great action and set pieces, a great performance by Craig as Bond, but a ludicrous script that isn't strong enough to hold up all of the good work that everyone else involved in the production has contributed.
So a Marvel movie? :D

But really, I’m still very invested and excited for more Bond. The Craig era is a “Golden Age” for Bond films in my eyes (though QoS was a slight miss-fire). I’ll be sad to see him go after this one.

I agree, I've enjoyed the Craig films. I thought Skyfall and Casino were great. Skyfall stands as one of the best Bond films ever made in my opinion. Quantum is, OK, but for some reason seems like more of a generic action film than a Bond feature. Spectre to me seems sort of like a mash-up of Skyfall with a return to goofy Roger Moore era comedy. I basically went back and forth during the film with "Like that sequence." and "Don't like that." and it made the picture a bit of a chore.

Knowing that this new picture is having "additional comedy and humorous dialogue" added does not sound promising...at least to me. I will go and see it because I think Craig has been a fantastic Bond but I have a suspicion that this is going to be a departure from his other films. I think he is trying to go out with a wink and a nod rather than a bang. We'll see I guess.

Here's how I see what they did with each of Craig's pictures:

Casino - They decided they needed to give the whole thing an overhaul and it worked. Yes, Bond seemed more serious, the goofy aspects were mostly gone, and they captured everybody's attention.

Quantum - This one feels like they could not believe how well Casino worked and said "Now, what do we do?" and what they did seemed to be look at a lot of other recent action films and tried to ape them. It leaves the film feeling overly generic. Craig who was magnetic in Casino comes across as a blank almost. Also they seem to place all of the emphasis on the action and the dialogue is dreadful.

Skyfall - Recognizing the failure of Quantum they again overhaul, this time by hiring an interesting and talented director. Mendes does a glorious job creating the gorgeous visuals and set pieces of the sort that make you think of classic Bond. Having Roger Deakins at his side ends in one of the most visually sumptuous films in the series. They manage to surpass Casino and return the massive feel of a Bond feature that is a beautiful globe trotting adventure.

Spectre - Well, the complaints that Bond has lost the sense of humor and camp of the Roger Moore days appears to have been embraced here. We return to goofy and gadgets and a more campy Bond adventure. The level of silly and ridiculous skyrockets. The early car chase in the film where Bond races through the streets looking like he is no more excited than he would be making his morning coffee is...well...dreadful Moore style camp. To add to the feeling the car Bond is driving has all sorts of buttons and switches to throw to deploy the gadgetry of the goofy old days. In the end the film works but seems to be a tribute film celebrating all the many years and variations of Bond.

I definitely agree that Spectre went a bit back towards over the top, but in my eyes only slightly and appropriately so. I kind of liked that they melded the more serious down to earth ness of the Craig era and mixed in some ludicrousness, but I wouldn’t say to the Moore level. It had a surreal feel to it that made it really fun to watch.

While I don't think every Bond film should have Moonraker levels of slapstick, I've never understood where the notion that Bond should be "serious" comes from. There was quite a bit of humour in the films right off the bat, and while the Bond of the Fleming books isn't particularly funny as a character, the books themselves are very pulpy, over-the-top adventure stories with a lot of ridiculous and outrageous elements. Dalton and Craig's po-faced takes on the character always struck me as fighting against the source material.

The more serious they become the less watchable they become.
I guess there’s Fleming bond and movie bond.

I love Moonraker.
Started watching Live and Let Die last night. It had been a while since I had watched it.

"Mr. Osato believes in a healthy chest."

You Only Live Twice. My favorite of the 60s Bonds, followed by Goldfinger.

I too am hoping they lighten up a bit for Craig's final Bond movie tentatively titled - Another Day to Spy Again.

;)

p.s. and I hope they surprise us by not killing off Lea Seydoux, do we really need another grim Bond out for revenge?

I don’t see Craig’s films as exclusively serious, I would call them down to earth. I think they have had plenty of lightness to them, as did Dalton’s Bond movies. And I don’t see either of them as poo-faced. I would throw in the early Connery films as being in the same category of Bond film. Connery had more gadgets, and Dalton and Craig had more violence, but they all had humor. Dalton didn’t pull it off as well as Connery or Craig though, but a few of his lines worked alright. I particularly liked his “Salt corrosion “ line.

Anything more on those UHd Blu Ray discs in September? Just Craig bond or will we get some of the others 007 films that people actually want to watch?

Apparently Daniel Craig has been injured:

Variety said:
The difficult road to production on the latest James Bond film has hit another hurdle after shooting was reportedly suspended following an injury to star Daniel Craig. According to British newspaper The Sun, the actor fell while sprinting on the set in Jamaica last week and has been flown to the U.S. for X-rays, resulting in a suspension of the shoot.

The newspaper cited an unnamed source as saying that Craig was shooting one of his final scenes in Jamaica. “He was sprinting during filming when he slipped and fell quite awkwardly,” the source said. “He was in quite a lot of pain and was complaining about his ankle.”

While it is unknown how long the production might be delayed, The Sun reports that filming at London’s iconic Pinewood Studios, which had been scheduled to begin at the end of the week, has been canceled.

Hopefully he makes a full recovery.

Unless they can shoot around him for a while

I doubt that very much. He's Bond. There can't be that much of the movie that he's not in.

Of course, the conversation then becomes whether or not they can make the April 2020 release date.

I understand why they would want it to come out sooner, but there seems to be a little bit of a hole in the schedule for the 2020 holiday season. November 6 has an untitled Marvel (probably The Eternals) and November 20 has the Dune remake, but that's it in terms of existing branded IP in November. In December 2020, instead of a Star Wars or Avatar title, Disney will be releasing Fox's West Side Story and their Cruella movie with Emma Stone. It feels like Bond could go in there to be an action blockbuster option and not compete (directly) with either one of those.

Well, for Temple of Doom, pretty much any shot where you can't clearly see Harrison Ford's face was done with a double, so there might be quite a bit they could film without Craig. But I suspect his injuries aren't all that serious.

From Variety:

"Daniel Craig is expected to return to shooting the latest James Bond film “within the week” after suffering an injury during a stunt, it has been reported. According to British newspaper The Sun, which broke the story of Craig’s ankle injury suffered on set in Jamaica last week, which caused a temporary halt to production, the actor will be able to resume production while being careful not to aggravate the injury".
