I'm trying to get in as many Oscar-nominated films as possible before the ceremony, and I'm wondering if Black Hawk Down is eligible for this years' awards. I belive it was released in LA & NYC in December, which would make it eligible, but I don't see it mentioned on many lists of Oscar candidates. Anyone know the scoop?

Yes, it was released in NY/LA in December specifically to qualify for the Oscars.

Go to Reel.com and look at Welles's column (H'wood Confidential).
He has it listed as one of his favorites to get a nomination (his prediction favorites, not necessarily his choices). He tries to read the buzz around town out there, at Sundance, plus good old gut feelings. :)

The eligibility rules for films
are quite simple.
From the AMPAS website:
"Eligible films must open between January 1 and December 31 and play continuously for at least 7 days."
That's basically it.:)
