Haley Joel Osment - A.I. Artificial Intelligence: I don't think there is any other child actor that could have played that role.

If we're doing this as a tournament, consider these my nominations:

    Macaulay Culkin, Home Alone

    Brad Renfro, The Client

Mary Badham, To Kill a Mockingbird

That's all I can think of right now. And I would definitely agree with Haley Joel in "The Sixth Sense".

Kirsten Dunst was excellent in Interview with a Vampire. I didn't see many of the other nominees performances, but I can see why Anna Paquin won Best Supporting Actress for The Piano. I though Osment should've won Best Supporting Actor for The Sixth Sense.

Anna Paquin in The Piano, The greatest performance I have ever seen by a child actor.
    also
Victoire Thivisol , for Ponette. She was only 3 years old when chosen for the lead role, And only 4 years old when the film was made. She ended up winning the award for best actress at The Venice Film Festival in 1996 for that role.

Tatum O'Neal all the way for Paper Moon, far and away my favorite child performance ever.

Haley Joel Osment was amazing in The Sixth Sense, and bettered himself one with A.I. His performance in Pay It Forward was also well done.

Let's not forget Natalie Portman's performance in Heat as well, although it was short, she still played it perfectly.
