Anyone try to use those amplified monitors in a HT setup? Seems like a more cost effective way and would solve the problem of so dang many boxes. Of course you'd have 115vac to ea. speaker.

Just kickin this around,

Yes!! It's quite an elegant solution, really. Pre/pro and powered speakers all around. e.g. the pros use powered speakers, like when they're mixing the sound for movies. I bet you'd be blown away by 5 powered M&K speakers. Plus, you eliminate passive crossovers, which improves the sound in various ways. Check out:

Even 5 Mackie HR-624 speakers (which would be a total of only $2250) would absolutely rock w/ a powered SVS or similar.
When I get around to really doing a home theater, this is basically the route I want to go.
Plus, if you need to upgrade because of new formats, you have only to replace the pre/pro. All wires can stay put, and the amps are right there in the speakers.

Paradigm used to manufacture a very high quality active speaker line, but sadly discontinued it in 2002.:frowning:

I have Paradigm Actives for left, center and right. I really love them. The cabling can be a real issue though. I just moved to a new home and had to replace my interconnects since they were too short and they are more expensive than speaker wire. I am running balanced XLRs from my AVM 20 to my speakers.

Yeah it's too bad Paradigm discontinued those.

Ron: that setup sounds awesome! AVM20 -> XLR -> powered speakers is basically the kind of thing I want to put together. I'll probably go w/ M&K or Mackie.
