Good adaptation.

Huh? This is the recent French film which is not adapted from Victor Hugo, but uses its title.

It's filmed where Hugo set his novel. That's the only connection. Nonetheless, it's a brilliant film which deserved it's Oscar nomination and all the awards it garnered last year.

Sorry about that. My mistake. This new version I watched was the epic new Masterpiece Theater adaptation. Since I have PBS Passport it was included with that.
