My first planned disc purchase this year!

Interesting only 5.1 audio on all formats. But they're including the shifting aspect ratios on 4K and Blu.

Didn't notice that. Thanks for clarifying.

It has been discussed on this forum many times about Nolan not using Dolby Atmos in his film presentations.

However, odd that 7.1 would not be an option here.

Nolan doesn't even like 5.1. He wants most sound to come from the front of the room.

Given my constant image height projection setup, I might just opt for the DVD, especially since 5.1 sound is the only option on all three formats. As I recall, the 70mm non-Imax presentation I saw theatrically also had a constant image size.

Has Nolan ever explained his preference? I have this preference too but in my case it's because I have hearing loss & the fewer the distractions (LFE, surrounds) the better!

I don't recall seeing anything from Nolan himself, but around the time Interstellar came out, one of his sound mixers gave an interview (I don't still have a link, sorry) explaining that Nolan does not like surround sound and prefers a "wall of sound" coming from the screen.

Saw this in a very nice 70mm presentation (not IMAX) and liked it, but distinctly remember thinking afterwards that I didn't need to see it again.
I felt like this after seeing Titanic. My expectations for Oppenheimer weren't quite realised and I will watch it again before committing to a disc.

Knew it was a long shot, but was hoping that the 15/70 IMAX version would be included as well. Oh well

I'm surprised this wasn't released today to coincide with Barbie again. ;)
I'm amazed that they're releasing it on disc and digital on the same day. What demonic force has possessed them?😈
I'm guessing Christopher Nolan probably requested this.

I'm sure this disc represents exactly how Nolan wants the film to be available in homes. I'm not a huge fan of variable aspect ratios, but we know from the home releases of his previous films that this is how he likes it.

I agree. I wouldn't necessarily mind seeing it again, but it isn't a film I would want to watch repeatedly. I respect it and appreciate how well-crafted it is. I don't think an Oppenheimer movie could be better than this one. But given the serious subject matter, it's not something I would revisit much. I'm much more likely to want to pull out something more fun for rewatches.

It did. This is the same way I saw it. The shifting ratio version was for IMAX because it was filmed with their cameras. I'm pretty sure anyone who saw it in a non-IMAX venue would have had a consistent ratio.

Nolan's deal with Universal for the film reportedly included a 100-day theatrical window, so I don't think they could release it too much earlier than they are. Released July 21, today wouldn't yet be 90 days.
