I have an old car sub that I would like to use in the garage. Has a car amp. What is a cheap way to get power from ac wall unit to dc car amp.

A common battery charger is the cheapest way, but probably not the best way. They don’t really have clean DC, so expect some hum in the sub.

Also, don't expect to get the as much power from the amp as you would in a car, since available amperage is lower.

also try adding a battery to it a optima gell cell they are deep cycle and would work beter than the charger alone. but now you can buy a plate amp at that price.

There isn't one.

What you are talking about is called a power supply. Yes, you can buy 12v power supplies from Radio Shack for about $50, but they will only be good for a couple of amps. Your car amp will need much more. A 200W amp, for example will need 200*1.5(efficiency factor)/12 = 25 amps. A 25A power supply will run you at least a couple hundred bucks. As Wayne suggested, you might be able to get by with a 25A battery charger and some big filter caps or a battery for smoothing. Voila... you're back up above the price of a plate amp. Save the car amp for your car.
